24 uur Daytona: Nasr snelste in proefkwalificatie, Alonso twaalfde

De proefkwalificatie van de 24 uur van Daytona is als snelste afgesloten door Felipe Nasr. Renger van der Zande reed de vierde tijd, terwijl Fernando Alonso en Lance Stroll twaalfde en dertiende werden.

De oefenkwalificatie van zondag is van geen enkel belang voor het bepalen van de startopstelling, maar de verdeling van de pitboxen en garages wordt wel op basis van de resultaten uit deze sessie bepaald. Nasr, Eric Curran, Stuart Middleton en Mike Conway waren het snelste en mogen dus als eerste een pitbox kiezen voor hun nummer 31 Action Express Cadillac. De nummer 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac van Renger van der Zande, Jordan Taylor en Ryan Hunter-Reay mag als vierde kiezen, terwijl Fernando Alonso, Lando Norris en Phil Hanson hun nummer 23 United Autosports Ligier als twaalfde van een pitbox mogen voorzien.

Na afloop van de sessie hoopte Alonso op meer snelheid in de komende weken. "Het is pas testen, maar we hebben meer snelheid nodig en hopelijk zijn we dan competitiever in de race. Ik heb niet veel ronden gereden, maar het is beter dan niets en ik voel me beter voorbereid voor de race. Dit weekend hebben we goed gewerkt met mijn teamgenoten en het team om alles met elkaar te delen, aan te passen en compromissen te sluiten zodat iedereen tevreden is. Dat was het grootste doel van het weekend en dat hebben we bereikt."

Klap sneller dan Ericsson? Nou dat viel wel mee, eerder tegen eigenlijk.
Volgens mij is Nasr zijn plekje mede kwijtgeraakt doordat zijn sponsor, Banco de Brasil, stopte.

Nasr zit nog altijd op een stoeltje in de F1 te wachten.
Nou hup, Claire Williams even bellen.
Nasr had toch ook behoorlijk sponsor geld?

  Laat maar gewoon wachten. Ja hij was een klap sneller dan Ericson maar hij heeft een kans gehad niet overtuigend gereden dus laat die plek liever over aan een echt talent die nog een kans verdiend.

Dit moeten ze in de F1 invoeren, en daar dan gelijk 2 extra motoren voor in de poule bij gooien svp ;)
