Stroll legt eerste probleemloze raceafstand af voor Williams

De vijfde testdag voor het seizoen 2018 verliep vrijwel probleemloos voor Williams. Met 128 ronden werden bijna twee raceafstanden afgelegd door de renstal uit Grove, waarvan Lance Stroll in de middag een probleemloze "race" aflegde.

In de ochtend zat Sergey Sirotkin in de FW41: hij noteerde de negende tijd van de dag. Stroll nam 's middags plaats in de Williams en hij werd de baan opgestuurd met het doel een volledige raceafstand af te leggen. Dat lukte, zonder problemen. "Ik heb de eerste raceafstand van dit jaar achter de rug en dat was positief. Met het algehele gevoel en de hoeveelheid grip hebben we een stap gemaakt ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Waar we staan ten opzichte van de rest weet ik niet, maar vergeleken met vorig jaar voelde het een stuk beter", zei de Canadees na afloop van de dag.

"Nu hebben we meer tijd nodig voor racesimulaties en kwalificatiesimulaties, maar als we ons programma voltooid krijgen, denk ik dat we op de goede weg zijn voor Melbourne. We kunnen ons overal nog wat verbeteren, want er is nog veel dat we niet geprobeerd hebben op de auto. Je hebt veel mogelijke setups voor een Formule 1-auto en het duurt twee weken voor je alles afgewerkt hebt."

Sirotkin sprak ondertussen van een testdag die lastiger was dan het leek. "Het was warmer, maar de condities waren verraderlijk. Het zag eruit als een mooie dag, maar qua testen was het lastiger. In de ochtend hadden we een paar kleine probleempjes. Dat was niet ideaal, maar wel beter dan afgelopen week en ik heb er nog steeds wat van kunnen leren. We hebben ook data kunnen verzamelen die ons gaan helpen bij het programma van woensdag. Het was niet ideaal, maar het is zoals het is."
