Romain Grosjean geniet van het gevecht in de middenmoot

Haas F1-coureur Romain Grosjean vindt het gevecht tussen de teams uit het zogenaamde midfield echt prachtig. Volgens de Fransman maakt dat het racen dit jaar nog leuker.

"Super spannend"

Grosjean: "De ene race is Renault de snelste, de volgende keer is het een Toro Rosso en dan is het weer Haas of misschien de McLaren. Dat maakt het super spannend en we moeten dan ook alles perfect voor elkaar hebben tot op de laatste tiende van een seconde om tijdens de kwalificatie de concurrentie voor te blijven."

Best of the rest?

Maar bij de top teams kunnen ze nog geen aansluiting vinden zo realiseert ook Grosjean zich: "Natuurlijk is het vooraan een andere situatie, het is een mooi gevecht, maar er is een behoorlijk gat met de overige teams." Op de vraag of Haas F1 het in zich heeft om best of the rest te kunnen worden dit seizoen zegt hij: "Ik hoop het, we werken er hard aan en als we dat aan het einde van het seizoen hebben weten te bereiken zou dat fantastisch zijn."

Geen geluk nog

Voorlopig staat Haas F1 op een zevende plaats in de strijd om het constructeurskampioenschap. Het team behaalde elf punten, allemaal op het conto van Kevin Magnussen. "We hebben nog niet echt geluk gehad, in drie races konden we in de punten komen, maar drie keer gebeurde dat uiteindelijk niet", zo zegt Grosjean. Maar dat ligt niet aan de VF-18 zo zegt hij: "De wagen is erg goed en het team heeft goed werk afgeleverd. Wetende dat de basis goed is net als de wagen is erg mooi en het valt binnenkort echt wel onze kant op."

Eerst maar eens afwachten hoe de ontwikkeling verder gaat dit jaar. Daar waren ze de afgelopen jaren na ook een redelijk begin niet echt sterk in.

  Precies mijn gedachte. Sterke auto in begin maar dan stagneert de boel waardoor ze weer achteraan rijden.
  
  Maar goed, F1 kan soms verrassend zijn, wie weet.

Ja, je moet proberen er het beste van te maken. Wel jammer dat je als coureur gevechten in het middenveld prachtig moet vinden. Eigenlijk wil je het liefst vooraan rijden... Toch?
