Sergio Perez: "Podiumplaatsen Force India zijn geen toeval"

Sergio Perez zegt dat het geen toeval is dat Force India wederom een podiumplaats te pakken heeft. Het was de vijfde keer dat Perez in dienst van de renstal een podium wist te pakken.

Geen toeval

De Mexicaan moest in de eerste ronde al naar binnen door schade opgelopen in de chaos van de eerste bochten, maar uiteindelijk eindigde hij als derde achter Lewis Hamilton en Kimi Raikkönen. Perez tegen Autosport.com: "Natuurlijk is het resultaat een aaneenschakeling van toevalligheden, maar het is geen toeval dat wij altijd klaar staan om te pakken wat er voor onze voeten komt."

Dat betekent volgens Perez niet dat ze nu de strijd aan kunnen gaan met de top team: "Dit is niet onze strijd om eerlijk te zijn, dat is het middenveld en eindelijk pakken we met dit podium veel punten en kunnen wij het gat met de Renault-motoren gaan dichten. Wij waren zeker het vierde team van dit weekend."

Race-incident

Zijn teamgenoot Esteban Ocon moest in de eerste ronde al afhaken na een crash met Raikkönen. Perez die ook wel eens crashte met Ocon zegt daarover: "Ik denk dat het een eerlijk race-incident was. Wellicht had Esteban iets meer ruimte kunnen laten en wellicht was Kimi een beetje optimistisch om met koude banden aan de binnenkant te komen op een vies circuit. Voor Esteban was het zuur dat Kimi uiteindelijk op het podium kwam en dat hij al snel in de pitbox zat."

Als je kijkt voor welke teams Perez heeft gereden dan heeft hij al een prima aantal podiums gehaald. (Acht dacht ik.) En Force India pakt altijd de knikkers op als een ander ze laat liggen, doen ze gewoon goed.

  Het lijkt net of sommigen alleen de titel lezen en/of de conclusie van de schrijver van het topic.
  Als ik kijk naar de quotes van Perez dan zie ik toch duidelijk dat hij zelf al aangeeft dat het een samenloop van omstandigheden is waardoor ze de mogelijkheid krijgen een podium te pakken. Ik ga er voor het gemak even vanuit dat hij daarmee niet het uitvallen van Sirotkin bedoelt, maar refereert naar het uitvallen van Bottas/Red bulls/verremmen van Vettel.
  Uiteindelijk hebben ze er inderdaad al een paar keer gestaan en doet de Force India het de afgelopen jaren toch gewoon goed.

Tja...valt wel wat over te zeggen. Aardige kerel die Perez, maar dankzij het uitvallen van RB, Bottas en de fout van Vettel kwam hij op het podium. Als dat niet gebeurd rijden ze ergens rond plek 9 of 10.
