Williams Racing wil hernieuwd onderzoek naar diverse incidenten in Bakoe

Williams Racing heeft officieel protest ingediend tegen diverse beslissingen van de stewarts bij de Grand Prix van Azerbeidzjan. Coureur Sergey Sirotkin was betrokken bij een beslissing en de Britse renstal wil nu dat er veel meer incidenten uit die race opnieuw beoordeeld worden.

Gridstraf voor Sirotkin

Sirotkin kreeg een gridstraf van drie plaatsen voor de Grand Prix van Spanje en eveneens twee strafpunten op zijn racelicentie. Aanleiding was een aanrijding met Force India-coureur Sergio Perez tijdens de eerste ronde van de race in Bakoe.

Alonso nader bekeken

In het protest heeft Williams ook specifiek de acties van McLaren-coureur Alonso benoemd. De Spanjaard kwam alles behalve ongeschonden uit de strijd tijdens een incident waar ook Sirotkin en Renault-coureur Nico Hülkenberg bij betrokken waren. Alonso wist bijzonder knap zijn zwaar beschadigde auto de pits in te rijden (daar waar het voor Sirotkin einde race was) en alsnog zevende te worden vlak voor Williams Racing-coureur Lance Stroll.

Nog meer incidenten

Maar daar blijft het niet bij, want volgens Williams dient ook de crash tussen de Ferrari van Kimi Raikkönen en de Force India-wagen van Esteban Ocon opnieuw te worden beoordeeld. Daarnaast verwachten ze ook dat de gevaarlijke move van Kevin Magnussen richting Pierre Gasly wordt bekeken. Volgens de FIA zullen de betrokken partijen opnieuw worden gehoord om de zaak opnieuw te beoordelen.
