Ocon: "Op papier zou Paul Ricard ons moeten liggen"

Het Formule 1-circus brengt komend weekend voor het eerst in tien jaar weer een bezoek aan Frankrijk. Plaats van handeling voor de Franse Grand Prix is het 5,842 kilometer lange circuit van Paul Ricard. Die baan zou Force India wel moeten liggen, denkt thuisrijder Esteban Ocon. "Op papier is dit een circuit dat ons in de kaart speelt."

De jonge Fransman verheugt zich erop om voor eigen publiek te racen. "Ik droom er al jaren van om op het hoogste niveau in eigen land te racen en nu ga ik eindelijk het gevoel van een thuisrace ervaren. De aankondiging van de terugkeer van de Grand Prix van Frankrijk was het beste nieuws van vorig jaar. Ik ben trots op het harde werk van alle betrokkenen en hoop dat het evenement uitgroeit tot een succes."

"Ik heb eerder in mijn carrière op Paul Ricard geracet. Ik heb er mijn eerste overwinning in de eenzitters behaald, dus ik bewaar goede herinneringen aan dit circuit. Ik hoop dat we daar komend weekend nieuwe mooie herinneringen aan toe kunnen voegen. Dat ik er in de opstapklasses al heb gereden maakt de aanpassing makkelijker, ik ga ervan uit dat ik snel mijn ritme weet te vinden."

"De voorbije races in Monaco en Canada hebben we een aardig niveau tentoon gespreid, dus ik hoop dat we in Frankrijk ook goed kunnen presteren. Op papier zou Paul Ricard ons moeten liggen, met een aantal lange rechte stukken en langzame bochten waar we de mechanische grip van onze auto kunnen benutten. Deze baan is voor iedereen nieuw en wij zijn over het algemeen bedreven in het vinden van de juiste set-up, dus daar maak ik me geen zorgen over."

In tegenstelling tot Haas is men bij Force India wel tot op het bot gemotiveerd om zichzelf dit seizoen te verbeteren en weer op te rukken tichting die 4e plek in het kampioenschap. Wanneer ze zo doorgaan maken ze er ook nog kans op en wordt het een mooie strijd tussen Renault en Force India voor p4.

  Zou mooi zijn, @Rogier Hier. Force India is de laatste jaren een van de verrassingen in de F1 gezien hun performance ondanks beperkte middelen.

  Beperkte middelen is veel gezegd daar staat natuurlijk nog een goed fundament van Jordan, die slaagden er bij vlagen ook in om boven hun limit te presteren, zal wel geen toeval zijn ook al is het personeel meer dan wss al grondig veranderd sinds de Jordan dagen.
  
  Ook voor mij is het zeer opvallend FI maakte de meeste stappen voorwaarts tot nog toe!
