Vijay Mallya: "Force India kan nog steeds vierde worden"

Volgens Vijay Mallya kan Force India nog steeds vierde worden in het constructeurskampioenschap. Het kleine Brits-Indiase team presteerde in 2016 en 2017 zo goed dat het het beste team werd in de subtop. De seizoensstart verliep dit jaar niet naar verwachting, maar de laatste tijd weten Sergio Perez en Esteban Ocon goede punten te scoren in de roze bolide.

Mallya, die zijn rol als directeur van Force India eind mei overdroeg aan zijn zoon, is vol vertrouwen dat zijn team nog steeds vierde kan worden in het kampioenschap: "Als je kijkt waar we aan het begin van het jaar stonden dan hebben we ons goed herpakt. In de eerste races waren onze coureurs te vaak betrokken bij incidenten en dat kost punten. Inmiddels zijn we McLaren voorbij gegaan, het volgende doel is om Haas en Renault te pakken. We blijven de auto verbeteren en hopelijk weten we voor de zomerstop nog een flink aantal punten te pakken."

Force India staat momenteel zesde in het kampioenschap met twee punten achterstand op Haas F1. De achterstand op de vierde plek, momenteel in handen van Renault, bedraagt 21 punten.

    Ja kan echter ik vrees dat nu ook de teams met een Mercedes moor het moeten afleggen tegen met name Haas en ook Sauber komt er aan. .
    Dus zou kunnen echter niet echt waarschijnlijk volgens mij

    Force India heeft voor een privé team de boel goed voor elkaar qua ontwerp van hun auto en de implementatie van de motor. Echter, wanneer je tegen de Ferrari-teams opbokst, gaat het niet alleen over de nu sterkere Ferrari-motor, maar dus ook de implementatie. Waar de Mercedes (en Renault)-teams dit zelf moeten ontwerpen, kunnen de Ferrariteams alles één op één overnemen van Ferrari, en hebben ze anders dan de anderen ook de volledige support van Ferrari-mensen op dit punt (en niet alleen op dit punt).

    Kortom. FI staat tegenover halve fabrieksteams. In het geval van Haas is het meer dan dat, aangezien alles bij en door Ferrari gedaan wordt, zij het in naam van Dallara.
