Pierre Gasly naar laatste startplek door motorwissel

Twee auto's met Red Bull-sponsoring staan op de laatste startrij bij aanvang van de Grand Prix van Duitsland. Daniel Ricciardo was al verzekerd van die positie door een eerdere motorwissel, vandaag werd ook Pierre Gasly teruggezet naar de laatste rij.

Gasly kwalificeerde zich al niet goed voor de Duitse GP. Hij was in de kwalificatie op Hockenheim niet verder gekomen dan de zeventiende positie. Voor Honda en Scuderia Toro Rosso betekende dat een goede gelegenheid om een tactische motorwissel te doen voor Gasly. Hij krijgt daardoor de beschikking voor een compleet nieuwe vijfde power unit. Daardoor wordt de Fransman wel teruggezet naar de laatste startplaats. Ricciardo schuift een plekje op en start als voorlaatste. Ook Brendon Hartley, Lance Stroll en Stoffel Vandoorne schuiven een plaatsje op.

      Nee geen update. Ze kunnen deze motor nu snel jaar Japan sturen en uitelkaar halen. Daar wordt hij volledig geanalyseerd. Deze tactiek, motoren wisselen zonder dat ze al kapot gegaan zijn, is een waardevolle maar ook zeer kostbare manier van werken. Eentje die Honda toe kan passen dankzij medewerking van STR en RBR. Het ziet er niet chique uit en zoiets komt het presteren van STR als team natuurlijk niet ten goede. Daardoor zal het team ook wel iets slechter gaan lijken dan ze misschien zijn. Maar de topspeed van Hartley en Gasly lag echter beduidend hoger dan elk ander Renault team haalde.

      Op andere websites is te lezen dat de oude motor toch gewoon in de engine pool gaat.

      "Pierre Gasly is set to join Daniel Ricciardo on the back row of the German GP grid after Honda opted to change most of his power unit components for the race.
      The decision was made to add more elements to his engine pool at a race where the penalty would be relatively low."

      Niks testen dus en niks naar Japan sturen. Gewoon om gridstraffen in de toekomst te voorkomen.

      Zou ook vreemd zijn. Ik snap dat je een nieuwe motor inzet omdat er een nieuwe spec is, maar dat is hier niet. En als er geen nieuwe spec is en je wilt graag testen, dan wil je juist zoveel mogelijk kilometers maken met je motor.

    Dat is dus het verschil met Renault.
    Honda grijpt de kans aan om nieuwe spullen in te zetten, omdat hij toch al bijna achteraan staat.
    Renault daarentegen heeft heel bot NEE gezegd tegen het verzoek van
    RBR om Ricciardo te voorzien van een nieuwe PU, omdat hij tóch al
    achteraan start.
    Pas in Spa kan hij nieuwe PU onderdelen krijgen en dan wéér gridstraffen.

      Heb je daar een bron van of roep je zomaar iets? Volgens Marko is er namelijk veel meer vervangen dan alleen de ES, CE en MGU-K. Daarmee zou die op 20 plaatsen straf staan en Marko spreekt van minimaal 30 plaatsen straf.

      "Zur Überraschung hat es Red Bull beim Austausch von MGU-K, Batterie und Steuereinheit belassen. Warum gibt es für Ricciardo keinen neuen Motor, um das Kontingent an Antriebsteilen aufzustocken? „Fragt bei Renault. Die wollen keinen Motor rausrücken", heißt es bei Red Bull. Gesagt, getan. Renault-Sportchef Cyril Abiteboul erklärt: „Es gibt auch keine Grund, einen neuen einzubauen. Wir verfolgen eine klare Strategie. Es gibt in dieser Saison einen A-, B- und C-Spec. Derzeit sind wir bei der B-Spezifikation. Der Motor hat noch genügend Reserven bei der Laufleistung. Wir arbeiten daran, in Spa die C-Spezifikation zu haben. Dann gibt es frische Motoren."
