Sirotkin: "We vangen ronde aan met als doel zo min mogelijk schade en verlies"

De vorm van Williams is het hele seizoen eigenlijk al ver te zoeken en dat is in Singapore niet anders. In de kwalificatie kwamen Sergey Sirotkin en Lance Stroll totaal niet uit de verf en ze bezetten dan ook de laatste startrij.

Sirotkin scoorde in Monza zijn eerste punt in de Formule 1, maar dat lijkt een eenmalige uitschieter geweest te zijn. In Singapore is het weer kommer en kwel voor de Rus, die nog wel sneller was dan teamgenoot Stroll. Makkelijk was het niet. "Het was erg lastig, een van de lastigste kwalificaties van het jaar. Het leek meer een kwestie van overleven."

"De manier waarop we elke ronde aanvangen is om met zo min mogelijk schade en verliezen de ronde uit te rijden, in plaats van aan te vallen als in een kwalificatie. Ik ben erg teleurgesteld. We wisten dat het lastig zou worden, maar de veranderende omstandigheden liet het van ons wegglippen. Morgen wordt niet de makkelijkste race, dus laten we hopen op wat regen."

Stroll werd dus in de kwalificatie verslagen door Sirotkin en hij verwacht ook een zware zondag op het stratencircuit in Singapore. "We hebben meer grip nodig om sneller te zijn, want dit ligt onze auto gewoon niet. Als ik naar de tijdenlijst van vandaag kijk, wordt de race een drama. Misschien kan wat regen ons helpen. We moeten uitzoeken waarom we zo langzaam zijn, want we komen veel tekort."

  Volgens mij is er altijd wel iets aan de hand in de beginfase van de race in Singapore. Eerste bocht weet ik niet zeker. Wel vaak in ieder geval. Hopelijk wordt het een mooie race en eindigt het niet in de eerste bocht voor 'ons'. ;)

  Gelukkig zijn er geen teambazen meer die hun nummer twee coureur instrueren om expres de muur in te rijden om zo een safetycar te forceren en het veld weer bij elkaar te brengen. Dat was ook Singapore.
