Ook Giovinazzi pleit voor camera's ter ondersteuning van spiegels

Antonio Giovinazzi hoopt dat de Formule 1 gaat kijken naar de invoering van camera's om het zicht achter de auto's te bevorderen. De Ferrari-reserve doet die uitspraak nadat Kevin Magnussen na de Grand Prix van Mexico klaagde over het zicht met de spiegels.

De achtervleugels zijn in 2017 ingrijpend gewijzigd en Magnussen heeft forse kritiek op het zicht dat de spiegels sindsdien leveren. Giovinazzi ziet in het gebruik van camera's een oplossing voor het probleem. De Italiaan maakte eerder in het WEC gebruik van dergelijke camera's voor beelden achter de auto en hij is van mening dat het ook voor de Formule 1 een goede optie zou zijn. Dat vertelde Giovinazzi aan PlanetF1.com.

"Ik denk dat het goed is. Tegenwoordig is het lastig om met de spiegels naar achteren te kijken door alle aerodynamische onderdelen achterop de auto. Een schermpje zou misschien dus wel helpen. Het hangt ervan af waar je het schermpje plaatst en dergelijke, maar ik denk dat het een goede optie kan zijn."

"In het langeafstandsracen gebruik je de spiegels vaker, omdat er dan dan een LMP1-auto of een GT-auto achter je zit," vervolgt Giovinazzi. "Daarom moet je ook meer kunnen zien. Ik denk dat het erg goed was voor de coureurs om een camera te hebben waarmee je achteruit kan kijken."

    Ja, je hebt tenslotte genoeg tijd in zo'n cockpit om uitgebreid op een schermpje te gaan kijken. Kan je ook snel nog even fotootjes van het thuisfront gaan bekijken...

      Het kost niet meer tijd om op een schermpje te kijken dan je hoofd te draaien en naar een van je twee spiegels te kijken....
      Een scherm, waarop je alles kan zien is juist handiger dan links en rechts moeten kijken en Gio heeft hier echt wel een punt!!!!

      Is er dan nu een regel die het gebruik van deze technologie zou verbieden? Wat let een team om dat gewoon te doen als ze vinden dat dat beter/veiliger is? Zo moeilijk kan het toch niet zijn? Er is vast wel een plekje te vinden om zoiets in te bouwen.

    hebben ze minimum gewichten opgetrokkken gaan ze de auto nog een keer zwaarder maken :) Misschien werken aan een robot in een wagen waar de coureurs in een simuatie alles af kan werken met 360graden view :)

      En zo'n camera en scherm weegt ook 100 kilo zwaarder dan een paar spiegels links en rechts????

    Gewoon duidelijke eisen voor de spiegels handhaven. Als de achtervleugel een probleem vormt, dan de achtervleugel verkleinen of hoger plaatsen. Als de spiegels te klein zijn maak dan de spiegels groter. Er is geen enkele reden waarom we na 70 jaar ineens camera's nodig hebben. Nu is nog een beetje te volgen wat een coureur in de wagen doet, zelfs ondanks de halo. Als ze straks ook nog alles via een displaytje regelen dan zien we de coureurs straks helemaal niet meer aan het werk.

      Sorry Mustfeed, maar dit is gewoon ontwikkeling. Je zou de displays zelfs in de omhulsing van de siegel kunnen zetten en de camera's daar waar ze optimaal zijn. Moet de coureur nog steeds links en rechts kijken maar zien ze veel meer. Probleem is dan wel dat als de camera stopt met werken je geen spiegel meer hebt! :-)

      Ik denk dan ook dat de camera beelden er wel gaan komen voor de coureurs maar dat de spiegels blijven vanwege veiligheidsredenen (als back up)

      Het kiezen voor camera's boven spiegels heeft helemaal niks met veiligheid te maken.

      Op deze manier kan je wel heel gemakkelijk alles 1 kant op praten natuurlijk. Met de huidige technologie is het ook mogelijk om de wagens volledig zelfstandig te maken. Zou je daar dan ook niet voor moeten zijn Mario?

      Dat en ik moet zeggen: wat een stel vrouwen zitten er tegenwoordig in de F1 zeg!!! Waar zijn de echte kerels gebleven die niet zeuren maar gewoon keihard racen!
