Alonso: "Ik wil voelen hoe vermakelijk een NASCAR-bolide is"

Fernando Alonso weet nog niet of hij in de toekomst de overstap naar de NASCAR wil maken. De Spanjaard test later deze maand de bolide van zevenvoudig NASCAR-kampioen Jimmie Johnson, maar het doel van die test is voor Alonso vooral om plezier te maken.

Een dag na de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi wisselen Alonso en Johnson in Bahrein van auto. Alonso neemt plaats in de Chevrolet Camaro met startnummer 48, terwijl Johnson plaatsneemt in een Formule 1-bolide van McLaren. Van Alonso is nog niet bekend wat hij in 2019 gaat doen. Hij stapt in ieder geval voor een seizoen uit de Formule 1 en hij maakt het WEC-seizoen af, maar verder is de agenda van de Spanjaard nog leeg.

De test met een NASCAR hebben de geruchten gevoed dat Alonso in de toekomst ook in die klasse wil rijden, maar daar wil de tweevoudig wereldkampioen zich niet op vastpinnen. "Ik wil de auto voelen en zien hoe leuk het is om in deze auto te rijden. Wie weet wat de toekomst brengt? Ik heb daar nog geen antwoord op. De beste informatie die ik krijg, krijg ik van Jimmie en ook van het team zal ik tips en aanbevelingen krijgen. Ik ben erg nieuwsgierig en natuurlijk is het een privilege om een NASCAR-auto te testen met een legende naast me. Ik kijk er erg naar uit en het is spannend."

J.Johnson zei dat auto's omwisselen Alonso's idee/zef was. Hij ruikt gewoon olie in alle klasses en nu dan ook Indy500. Gewoon top.

Als ik NASCAR zie ben ik altijd weer verbaasd dat die gasten met het stuur op de buik rijden. Kan mij niet voorstellen dat dat prettig rijdt.
