Grosjean kan zich eerste raceweekend van Haas nog goed herinneren

Het team van Haas eindigde dit jaar hun derde seizoen in de sport en Romain Grosjean kan zich de eerste race van het Amerikaanse team in 2016 nog goed herinneren. Inmiddels loopt het op rolletjes bij Haas, maar dat was richting het debuut in de sport wel anders.

"Onze eerste Grand Prix in 2016 in Australië was chaotisch. We reden niet veel ronden in de wintertests en we hadden in Melbourne dus amper info over de auto. Op vrijdag regende het en reden we dus ook geen ronden. We wisten zelfs niet eens of de radio werkte", zegt Grosjean tegenover The Players' Tribute.

"Op zaterdag konden we eindelijk de garage verlaten en toen raakte iemand ons in de pitlane. We moesten de vloer vervangen en daardoor verloren we zelfs nog meer tijd. De kwalificatie was ook een ramp, omdat de Formule 1 dat belachelijke eliminatiesysteem had geïmplementeerd."

"Ik startte toen als negentiende en eindigde in de punten, als zesde. Ongelooflijk en geweldig. Van tevoren hadden we een zesde plek niet verwacht. Onze telemetrie en radio faalden gedurende de race en onze auto had nog niet eens een volledige Grand Prix-afstand gereden richting de seizoensopener."

"Die hele dag was heel erg speciaal. Ik herinner me het gezicht van onze teambaas Guenther Steiner nog. Hij was erg trots op iedereen in de garage en het was echt een opluchting. Liefde en opwinding gingen er door ons gebied van de paddock. Wanneer ik terugkijk op mijn carrière, dan moet ik gelijk daaraan denken. Ik houd van het vehaal van dat weekend."

Ja, ik kan me de eerste keer ook nog heel goed herinneren. Is wel nog iets langer geleden...

En de race daarop 5e. Als het goed gaat bij Grosjean is hij ook echt goed, maar als hij in een slechte flow zit is het ook echt een debacle. Totaal niet constant genoeg helaas.

Grosjean was in de 2de helft van het seizoen echt duidelijk sneller dan Magnussen, terwijl het begin in het seizoen nou net andersom was... Haas moet constanter worden voor de 4de plek in het WK
