Kubica is niet van plan om zijn terugkeer lichtzinnig aan te pakken

Robert Kubica heeft toegegeven dat het succes van zijn terugkeer in de Formule 1 valt of staat met hoe goed de 2019-auto van Williams gaat zijn. Na een afwezigheid van acht jaar keert de Pool dit jaar terug op de grid bij het langzaamste team van 2018. Kubica zegt echter dat hij klaar is voor de uitdaging.

"Het is een moeilijke opgave en een zeer ambitieus doel, maar ik denk dat ik er redelijk om bekend sta dat ik dingen niet gemakkelijk en lichtzinnig aanpak. Of het gaat werken en hoe ik het ga doen, zal veelal afhangen van hoe ik me in de auto voel en hoe goed de nieuwe gaat zijn en hoe hij zich gaat gedragen."

"Dit kan de situatie aanzienlijk vereenvoudigen of compliceren", zegt Kubica tegenover het Poolse Przeglad Sportowy. In 2018 was de auto van Williams niet alleen langzaam, maar de rijders Lance Stroll en Sergey Sirotkin hebben naar verluidt ook problemen gekend met het rijgedrag en zelfs het rijcomfort. Kubica geeft toe dat de auto zich niet goed gedroeg.

"Het is als dansen met een partner die niet kan dansen. Wanneer een auto niet presteert zoals een rijder verwacht, dan gaat het niet eens zozeer om de snelheid of de rondetijden, maar het gevoel dat het geeft kan de rijder hinderen."
