Hülkenberg: "Moet op toppen van kunnen presteren om Ricciardo te verslaan"

Nico Hülkenberg krijgt bij Renault wederom een nieuwe teamgenoot. Deze keer gaat Daniel Ricciardo hem het vuur aan de schenen leggen en volgens de Duitser betekent dat dat hij echt het maximale uit zichzelf moet halen.

2019 wordt het derde seizoen in dienst van Renault voor Hülkenberg en elk jaar zag hij een andere teamgenoot naast zich. In 2017 begon hij naast Jolyon Palmer, die later vervangen werd door Carlos Sainz. Sainz was ook in 2018 de teamgenoot van Hülkenberg. Komend seizoen wordt Ricciardo dus zijn nieuwe teamgenoot en de nummer 7 van het afgelopen wereldkampioenschap weet dat hij alles uit zichzelf moet persen om af te rekenen met de Australiër.

"Ik zou zeggen dat ik op de toppen van mijn kunnen moet presteren", vertelde Hülkenberg aan RaceFans. "Dat betekent niet dat ik mijn niveau op moet schroeven. Ik heb altijd het gevoel dat ik het maximale uit mezelf wil halen en als ik mijn huiswerk goed doe, dan presteer ik meestal goed en is het genoeg om mijn teamgenoot te verslaan."

"Natuurlijk wordt dat naast hem een flinke uitdaging", vervolgt Hülkenberg. "Hij is snel en op alle gebieden sterk. Daarnaast is hij ook meervoudig grand prix-winnaar. Ik moet gewoon mijn beste prestaties neerleggen en hongerig en constant zijn."

    Die twee kunnen elkaar wel maximaal pushen en dat zal zeker goed zijn voor Renault. Nico was wat dat betreft wel een beetje ingezakt. Hopelijk gaat hij weer wat meer met een breekijzer aan de slag in de races in een poging dichterbij de voor hem startende Daniël te komen. Laat die onderlinge strijd maar tot een hoogtepunt komen. Na jarenlang de belofte uit hangen maar 0,0 podiums zijn er voor Nico geen excuses meer. Rammen met die bak en laat eens zien wat je waard bent.

      Eens. Maar tenzij we alle coureurs in een gelijkwaardige auto zetten, zullen we waarschijnlijk nooit weten wie de beste is?

      Hoezo geen excuses meer? De auto’s waarin hij reed belandden soms met een bak geluk op het podium, meer niet. Ik denk dat Ricciardo net zo hard zn best zal moeten doen. Denk dat t elkaar weinig ontloopt

    Ik vind Hulkenberg een overschatte coureur. Iedereen roept al jaren dat de Hulk ongelooflijk getalenteerd is. Waarom zat ie dan nooit in een top 3 wagen??
    Ik kan mis zijn en dit jaar gaan we het weten met Ric als vergelijk. Ben erg benieuwd naar deze krachtsverhouding.

      Eens. Redelijk goede rijder en niks mis met die gast maar ik vind hem ook overschat. Gewoon niveau Bottas/Perez/Massa.

    Vind Nico ook een zwaar overschatte coureur. Goed voor de middenmoot. Wel een aardige gozer, maar daar ga je niet harder van rijden..

    Voor mij wordt het net zo goed een soort “echte” test voor Ricciardo... Een jaartje of 5 comfortabel in een topauto af en toe een podium pakken, tja big deal,, zal het nu wel is heel erg zwaar kunnen worden voor hem, vooral als Renault op zelfde niveau als 2018 blijft hangen... Dat gekraai van Abiteboul luister ik niet eens meer naar.

    Menig coureur zou nochtans zijn palmares willen.Met zijn 1.84m nu ok niet echt klein en hoe groter hoe meer je weegt.Naar het schijnt ooit te groot bevonden voor Ferrari.Zeker geen prutser of pay-driver

    Kijk heel erg uit naar die 2 strijd, aan de ene kant hoop ik dat Hulkenberg Ricciardo flink gaat verslaan (verstevigd z,n marketingwaarde)

    maar aan de ander kant ook weer niet :) hoop dat beide renaults her en der een podiumpje pakken :)
