Grosjean zelfverzekerd: "Renault moet in 2019 bang zijn voor Haas"

Renault zou in de toekomst bang moeten zijn voor Formule 1-rivaal Haas. Dat zegt Romain Grosjean. De twee teams streden in 2018 lange tijd om de vierde plek bij de constructeurs en die strijd ging ook verder buiten het circuit. Zo diende Renault na de Italiaanse Grand Prix op Monza een protest in tegen de vloer van Grosjean. Dat tekende volgens de Fransman dat Renault bang was voor het Amerikaanse team.

"Het getuigde niet van veel sportiviteit. Maar ze waren bang voor ons en dat is een goed iets. Ze zouden voor de toekomst ook bang moeten zijn", zegt Grosjean tegenover Autosport.

"Er zijn echter nog een paar dingen die we moeten verbeteren. Een voorbeeld is dat we geen onderdelen maken, dus we moeten ze van buitenaf produceren en soms neemt dat wat tijd in beslag. Wanneer iets drie dagen in beslag neemt voor Renault, dan kost ons dat drie weken. We konden de vloer bijvoorbeeld niet veranderen in Monza. We presteerden er niets beter door, maar we hadden niet de tijd om het voor Monza te veranderen en Renault speelde daarop in."

Teambaas Guenther Steiner is zich volgens Grosjean bewust van de gebieden waarop verbetering op moet treden. "Hij begrijpt veel dingen en dat is geweldig. We praten erg vaak en hij is zich bewust van de dingen die moeten verbeteren en het is zeker iets waar we aan werken. Voor de rest is het vooral een leerproces. We willen sterker presteren en sneller worden. Het gaat steeds beter."

Denk dat we juist van Renault een flinke sprong vooruit mogen verwachten. Wat betreft afgelopen jaar en dat geintje met die vloer heeft ie volkomen gelijk maar denk dat het er in 2019 anders uit gaat zien.
