Chester: "Reglementswijzigingen hebben veel meer invloed dan de Halo"

De nieuwe regels van het 2019-seizoen zullen veel meer impact gaan hebben op het ontwerp van de auto dan de introductie van de Halo vorig jaar. Dat verwacht de technisch directeur op het gebied van de Renault-auto, Nick Chester. Zo zal er met bredere voorvleugels en langere achtervleugels worden gereden en het brandstoflimiet per race gaat omhoog van 105 naar 110 kilogram.

"De Halo was eigenlijk niet eens zo'n grote verandering. De reglementswijzigingen op het gebied van de ontwikkeling waren erg klein. We hebben de auto echter nog best veel veranderd, aangezien we in 2017 veel hadden geleerd wat we in de 2018-auto wilden stoppen. Maar in hoofdlijnen was het hetzelfde."

De Halo had dus niet veel effect op de auto's van vorig jaar, maar de auto's van dit jaar zullen wel aan verandering onderhevig zijn. De regelgeving verandert op veel vlakken en dat gaat volgens Chester invloed hebben. "De veranderingen van 2018 naar 2019 zullen veel groter zijn dan de veranderingen van vorig jaar", laat Chester weten tegenover RaceFans.

Terwijl sommige technische directeuren, zoals Paddy Lowe van Williams, het belang van het verhoogde brandstoflimiet hebben proberen af te zwakken, indiceert Chester dat Renault voordeel wil halen uit het verhoogde brandstoflimiet. "Ik denk dat je er op aardig wat circuits voordeel uit kunt halen. Dat ligt er natuurlijk ook aan wat voor motor je hebt."

  Voor de absoluut NIET technisch aangelegde ikke, is dit artikel zo gek nog niet. Voor een technisch aangelegd persoon is dit pure logica, voor een intuïtief persoon is het echt niet zomaar duidelijk wat waar precies invloed op uitoefent in de f1 wagen.
