'Dit is geen nieuw hoofdstuk voor Racing Point, maar een heel nieuw boek'

Het avontuur van Racing Point is woensdag echt van start gegaan met de onthulling van de nieuwe identiteit van het team. Technisch directeur Andrew Green meent dat het team niet begint aan een nieuw hoofdstuk in haar verhaal, maar aan een heel nieuw boek.

Racing Point onthulde bij de internationale autoshow van Toronto de nieuwe kleurstelling van haar bolides. Tegelijkertijd werd SportPesa aangekondigd als de nieuwe titelsponsor. Met de roze-blauwe bolides en meer financiële slagkracht voor het team moeten Sergio Perez en Lance Stroll ervoor zorgen dat Racing Point in 2019 steeds dichter richting de topposities klimmen.

Tijdens de presentatie vertelde teambaas Otmar Szafnauer dat het team nu op een andere manier druk zal ervaren dan voorheen. "Het is op veel manieren anders. In voorgaande jaren hadden we veel financiële druk en met dank aan het consortium en de partners is dat nu verleden tijd. Er staat minder financiële druk op, maar de druk komt nu van andere kanten."

"We moeten namelijk nog beter presteren dan voorheen. We werken allemaal hard om dat te bereiken. Ik denk dat we goed gepresteerd hebben met de bronnen die we hadden. Die bronnen zullen in de loop van de tijd groter worden en de prestaties moeten dat weerspiegelen. We willen er allemaal voor zorgen dat onze prestaties op het circuit niet blijven staan waar ze waren, maar dat we dichter bij de top komen."

Volgens Green heerst er een geheel andere, maar zeer goede sfeer binnen Racing Point. Volgens de technisch directeur heeft het team het gevoel dat het dit jaar echt stappen vooruit kan zetten. "Het gevoel in de fabriek is ongelooflijk. De mensen die ik op dagelijkse basis spreek, zijn zo geënthousiasmeerd door wat er is gebeurd."

"De nieuwe eigenaren, sponsoren en investeerders in het team zorgen voor iets dat nooit eerder gezien is. Er heerst echt een gevoel dat we mensen nu echt kunnen laten zien wat we kunnen. Zij geven ons de tools om vooruit te komen en dat zorgt er dus voor dat er een goed gevoel is. Het is geen nieuw hoofdstuk voor dit team, maar een heel nieuw boek. Dit is echt iets speciaals, waar we echt trots op zijn om daar deel van te zijn."

Snap echt niet dat ze niet met een betere naam konden komen dan Racing Point.

De nieuwe kleurstelling is weinig verrassend en ik vind hem net als vorig jaar de minst mooie.

  Het was dan ook een tijdelijke naam, ze wilden een grotere naam strikken (de geruchten gaan richting Brabham) maar dat mislukte. Zoals zoveel als Stroll Racing (want zo ga ik ze denk ik noemen) met een "Oh nee toch niet" lijkt te eindigen.

Geen nieuwe naam en op enkele nuances na vrijwel dezelfde livery. Dus welk "nieuw boek" bedoelen ze?

Overigens is de afkorting RP ook de afkorting voor Role Play hahaha...

Al diverse malen geschreven,, hoe moeilijk kan het zijn om een aansprekende naam te verzinnen.. in de jaren 90 noemde ze alles al . ... . point En ......... point, en niet te vergeten .................. point . Of zelfs ‘’’’’’,,,.... “ point... hou een prijsvraag , of doe iets via twitter maar ,,mijn hemel,, met racing point maak je niet echt een punt, het soort bij mij geen enkel punt. Ik zet er een punt achter, ik heb mijn punt gemaakt...
