Ook Toro Rosso en Racing Point laten coureurs om de dag op baan verschijnen

In navolging van Williams hebben ook Scuderia Toro Rosso en Racing Point bekend gemaakt welke coureurs op welke dag op de baan verschijnen tijdens de tweede week van de wintertests in Barcelona.

Beide teams laten hun coureurs om de dag in de bolides stappen. Dat houdt in dat Toro Rosso Alexander Albon op dinsdag en donderdag laat testen met de STR14. Daniil Kvyat neemt de woensdag en de vrijdag voor zijn rekening. Bij Racing Point zien we eenzelfde scenario: Lance Stroll rijdt op dinsdag en donderdag, Sergio Perez op woensdag en vrijdag. Daarmee kiezen beide teams ervoor om de volgorde van afgelopen week om te wisselen. Toen zaten Kvyat en Perez als eersten in de auto.

De meeste teams laten komende week hun coureurs om en om een dag rijden. Eerder vandaag maakte Williams dat al bekend, terwijl Red Bull Racing en Haas dat ook zullen doen. Ferrari is het enige team dat tot nu toe bevestigd heeft dat het een andere aanpak kiest. De Scuderia laat Charles Leclerc en Sebastian Vettel dagelijks een halve dag rijden.

Logisch, TR moet als testteam voor Red Bull natuurlijk zo veel mogelijk km’s maken om data te verzamelen voor Honda en Red Bull, dus die gaan zo waarschijnlijk heel veel km’s rijden komende testweek en met 2 coureurs per dag kan dat nog meer omdat het dan fysiek niet te veel eisend wordt voor de coureurs.

Echt, RB/Honda zitten in een zetel dit jaar met TR als testwagen. Op deze manier hebben ze de testbeperkingen mooi weten te omzeilen. Als het al te bont wordt met TR die allerlei motorupdates gaat testen, ook al krijgen zij dan extra straffen, en Red Bull wordt mede hierdoor titelkandidaat, dan kan je er vergif op innemen dat er gedurende komend seizoen er klachten gaan komen vanuit de andere topteams dat RB zo de testrestricties weet te omzeilen.

  Ach dat gaat Ferrari ook wel doen met Alfa denk ik. Maar goed ik ben benieuwd. deze week gaan we wel een klein beetje zien hoe snel die Honda nu werkelijk is. als TR weer goede tijden kan neerzetten dan heb ik er wel vol vertrouwen in. Ik had verleden week al zo´n idee dat ze gewoon TR de gloryruns lieten doen en dat ze dan wel ongeveer weten welke tijden hun dan kunnen neerzetten.

  Iets verwachten en de werkelijkheid is wat anders. riepen ze begin verleden jaar ook niet: ´we zijn gewoon het eerste team van Honda en het is niet ons doel om een testteam te worden, De vele motor wisselingen doen we voor onszelf´
  
  Om vervolgens op het midden van het seizoen te roepen: ´we zijn met het oog op volgend jaar al motoren aan het wisselen omdat we een zo sterk mogelijk RB /Honda willen hebben en we kennen onze plaats´

Ik denk dat Racing Point een zwaar jaar tegemoet gaat. Traditioneel maakt Racing Point (Lees Force India) een trage start maar weet zich vervolgens gedurende het jaar sterk te verbeteren. Gezien de steeds meer toenemende concurrentie van (semi) fabrieksteams zal het steeds lastiger worden voor de private teams om goed te presteren. Daarnaast zie ik het ook totaal niet zitten met de in mijn ogen middelmatig tot slechte Lance Stroll. Perez zal dus in zijn eentje de kar moeten trekken en in het ultra competatieve middenveld gaat Racing Point het zwaar krijgen. Ik denk dat ze niet hoger dan de 8e plaats gaan halen bij de constructeurs, McLaren 9e en Williams 10e.
