Aleshin onder de indruk van landgenoot Kvyat

Mikhail Aleshin is onder de indruk van de rentree van landgenoot Daniil Kvyat. Aleshin, een voormalige Red Bull-junior, heeft het idee dat zijn landgenoot nog altijd een kans heeft op één zitje bij Red Bull Racing.

Kvyat werd in 2016 vervangen door Max Verstappen nadat een serie van mindere resultaten hem zijn positie bij Red Bull Racing kostte. De Rus, die daarna overstapte naar Toro Rosso, werd eind 2017 aan de kant gezet door Helmut Marko. Kvyat ging vervolgens als simulator-coureur bij Ferrari aan de slag.

Sinds dit seizoen is de Rus terug bij Toro Rosso en dat is in Rusland niet onopgemerkt gebleven. "Het was erg goed om Kvyat karakter te zien tonen toen hij met Pierre Gasly in gevecht was tijdens de eerste race van het seizoen in Melbourne", vertelde Aleshin. "Hij kreeg het voor elkaar dat Gasly hem niet kon passeren."

"Het is moeilijk om te verklaren waarom Gasly zo tam reed, maar als Kvyat in dezelfde geest doorgaat, kunnen we allemaal hopen dat Daniil naar het hoofdteam zou kunnen verhuizen", vertelde de voormalig IndyCar en huidig WEC-coureur.

"Ik begrijp dat ik nu een beetje als fan spreek en mijn gedachten voorbarig kunnen zijn, maar voor ons als Russen is deze situatie natuurlijk ontzettend positief", sloot hij af.
