Racing Point stelt teleur in kwalificatie: "Spanje historisch een slecht circuit voor ons"

De kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Spanje verliep teleurstellend voor Racing Point. Sergio Perez en Lance Stroll kwamen niet verder dan respectievelijk P15 en P17 en dat stemde beide mannen niet tevreden.

Na afloop van de kwalificatie was Perez nog het beste te spreken. De Mexicaan was de enige coureur van zijn team die Q1 wist te overleven, maar daar was ook alles mee gezegd. Hij reed de langzaamste tijd in Q2 en vertelde tegenover GPToday.net dat hij hoop dat de snelheid in de race beter is. "De snelheid in de race ziet er beter uit dan onze prestatie in de kwalificatie."

"We zullen morgen zien wat we kunnen doen, maar het lijkt erop dat je startpositie hier belangrijk is. Hopelijk komt er een chaotische race en kunnen we de schade minimaliseren. We zullen echter moeten analyseren wat er gebeurt met dit pakket. Tegelijkertijd weten we ook dat dit circuit historisch gezien waarschijnlijk het slechtste circuit is voor ons. Ik maak me geen zorgen, maar ik ben wel teleurgesteld met het weekend tot nu toe."

Ook teleurstelling bij Stroll

Voor de negende race op rij wist Stroll zich niet te plaatsen voor het tweede deel van de kwalificatie. De laatste keer dat het hem wel lukte, was in de Verenigde Staten in 2018. Na de kwalificatie was de Canadees dan ook weinig spraakzaam. "De verschillen zijn erg klein en we misten wat rondetijd om naar Q2 te gaan. Voor ons team is dit ook niet het sterkste circuit. We waren aan het vechten met Renault en het lukte Sergio net wel om door te gaan, maar mij lukte het net niet."

Normaliter blijft hij alleen de Williamsen voor.
Vandaag heeft hij behalve de Williamsen ook nog Gio gepakt. Volgens mij zijn beste kwali van het seizoen. Retesnel die jongen!

Checo is constant beter dan Stroll, waar Checo en Ocon elkaar afwisselden gedurende het seizoen. Per saldo is RP met Stroll gemiddeld genomen dus langzamer. Vraag me af of pa Stroll dat ook zo ziet en wat hij hiermee gaat doen.

  Die gaat daar niks mee doen. In de F3 was al duidelijk dat Stroll niet het talent had, daarom werd er maar buitensporig veel geld tegenaan gegooid. En in de F1 volgt het ene matige jaar na het ander en wordt er opnieuw maar met geld gesmeten om te proberen Lance uit Q3 te krijgen. En het enige wat er met al dat geld lukt is dat iedereen loopt te slijmen bij de familie.

laten we wel eerlijk blijven , Barcelona ligt de RP19 nu eenmaal niet , kan gebeuren , Lance Stroll is een van de beste coureurs op de grid. Als de auto een klein beetje betere balance had gehad , had Lance op pole gestaan , de 17e startplek is een beetje geflatteerd. En op een baan rondrijden met nog 19 auto's werkt natuurlijk ook niet mee , diverse auto's reden hem in de weg waardoor een goede snelle ronde niet mogelijk was.
