Kvyat maakt volwassen indruk: "Ik rij beter dan ik ooit heb gedaan"

Een van de positieve verrassingen van het lopende Formule 1-seizoen is Daniil Kvyat. De Toro Rosso-coureur vindt zelf dat hij na de eerste zes races van 2019 beter rijdt dan hij ooit gedaan heeft.

Kvyat is pas 25 jaar oud, maar heeft al een bewogen carrière in de Formule 1 achter de rug. Hij debuteerde in 2014 in de Formule 1 bij Toro Rosso en kreeg al in 2015 promotie naar Red Bull Racing, om na vier races in 2016 alweer teruggestuurd te worden naar het Italiaanse zusterteam van de energiedrankenmaker. Eind 2017 werd Kvyat zelfs door dat team in de steek gelaten, maar begin 2019 keerde hij toch weer terug.

Kvyat in de vorm van zijn leven

De Rus verdiende op een gegeven moment de bijnaam Torpedo voor zijn onbezonnen, onhandige acties, maar die streken lijkt hij inmiddels achterwege te laten. Dat gevoel heeft hij zelf ook, want tegenover onder andere GPToday.net vertelde hij momenteel in de vorm van zijn leven te verkeren. "Ik ben in een erg goede vorm en erg blij met hoe het momenteel verloopt voor mij. Ik rij beter dan ik ooit heb gedaan, dus ik hoop dat het in de nabije toekomst heel moei dingen gaat opleveren."

Ook in Monaco maakte Kvyat weer een sterke indruk. Na een goede kwalificatie werd hij in de race zevende. Met dat resultaat was hij erg tevreden na afloop van de race. “Het was een goede en tevredenstellende race. Als team hebben we het maximale uit de kans gehaald. Het lukte Carlos om in de eerste ronde een riskante actie te laten slagen en voor mij te komen. Uiteindelijk leverde dat P7 op."

"Dat is niet slecht en het leverde goede punten op. Ook is het mijn beste klassering voor Toro Rosso tot nu toe. Ik ben blij dat ik deze lijn voort kan zetten. Ik begrijp steeds beter wat ik van de auto nodig heb om sneller te gaan. Het ziet er goed uit voor de toekomstige races. Het wordt belangrijk om te blijven pushen in de ontwikkeling van de auto en de motor, om meer en meer prestaties uit de auto te kunnen halen.”

Complimenten voor strategie Toro Rosso

Kyvat plukte de vruchten van een goede strategie, waarbij hij tijdens de neutralisatie buiten bleef reden. De Rus loofde na afloop die beslissing. “Het team stelde voor om op dat moment buiten te blijven. Ik denk dat dit een erg goede beslissing was, want mijn banden waren in een goede staat en het had geen zin om meteen te wisselen. Uiteindelijk bleek het een erg goed besluit te zijn.”

  @Meister kort veheugen zeker? De Renault motoren zijn al meerdere keren uitgevallen dit seizoen. Noway dat Max had gestaan waar hij nu staat met Renault klantenmotoren. Daarnaast heeft Honda ook een qualy modus waar Renault alleen nog maar van kan dromen

  @meister, Sainz eindigt op 48 sec van Max vind ik nogal een behoorlijke achterstand en Kvyat was ook sneller als Sainz alleen kon hem niet passeren Sainz pit in ronde 30 en in ronde 31 klokt Kvyat zijn snelste tijd op oude banden op elke andere baan was hij er voorbij gegaan en Albon ook

Als Gasly zich niet weet te verbeteren is het gewoon klaar.
Ik zou Albon nog een jaartje laten rijpen.

Ja Kvyat deed het goed laatste 2 races maar ik blijf op mn hoede. Kvyat is namelijk nooit erg lang constant en valt vaak terug in het seizoen. Laat hem maar eens een heel seizoen bewijzen er het maximale uit te halen ipv een paar races. Daarna kijken we weer verder
