Jock Clear helpt Leclerc vooral met 'belangrijke' communicatie binnen team

Een belangrijke rol in de communicatie tussen Charles Leclerc en Ferrari is dit jaar weggelegd voor Jock Clear. In Canada heeft de Monegaskische coureur omschreven op welke manier hij geholpen wordt door de Brit.

Clear is een ervaren man in de paddock, die sinds eind jaren '90 de race-engineer van onder andere Jacques Villeneuve, Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg en Michael Schumacher geweest is. Sinds eind 2014 werd hij voor Ferrari, waar hij dit jaar de taak heeft om de communicatie tussen Leclerc en zijn engineers goed te laten verlopen. Op die manier moet de jonge coureur geholpen worden het maximale uit de auto te halen.

"Jock helpt me met algemene dingen tijdens de weekenden, waarbij hij beide engineers helpt. Ik heb namelijk ook een performance engineer bij me. Hij kijkt naar hoe de samenwerking tussen ons is en probeert me te helpen met aanwijzingen en de manier waarop ik me richting het team uit."

"Het is erg belangrijk, want ik denk dat mensen onderschatten hoe belangrijk het is dat je de engineers helder vertelt wat je wil. Hij heeft veel ervaring in hoe ik me moet uitdrukken richting hen. Na het weekend gaan we met elkaar zitten en vertelt hij me op welke vlakken de samenwerking beter kan en welke dingen wel goed gingen."

Leclerc moet werken aan consistentie

Leclerc blijft van mening dat de Ferrari SF90 goede snelheid heeft, zoals tijdens een aantal races in 2019 gedemonstreerd werd. Ferrari en Leclerc hebben die snelheid echter niet consistent laten zien. Leclerc beseft dat hij hard zal moeten blijven werken om teamgenoot Sebastian Vettel en de overige concurrentie voor te kunnen blijven.

"Vanaf het begin van het seizoen zie ik al dat we erg sterk zijn als we de eindjes aan elkaar vastknopen. Ik denk echter dat ik en het team beter moeten samenwerken om consistent bovenaan te staan, iets wat nog niet het geval is. Ik ben nieuw in het team, Seb zit hier al enkele jaren. Ik moet wel werken aan mijn consistentie. In Bakoe en Bahrein was de snelheid geweldig, maar we moeten dat begrijpen en proberen om daar iedere keer te staan."

Of misschien ff dat bier en gin-tonic ff laten staan tijdens race's.

  of gewoon enkel bij een biertje houden, mijn ervaring is dat je na een gin-tonic of 2 enkel nog apathisch voor je uit zit te staren en niks meer meekrijgt van de race

Ik vind Charles een verademing.
Hij is inmiddels ietwat geïntimideerd door de extreem teleurstellende seizoensstart van Ferrari en de vele onnodige en ziekmakende foute beslissingen aan de pitmuur. Daardoor is hij wat momentum en flow kwijtgeraakt terwijl het Seb de kans heeft gegeven iets van zijn vorm terug te vinden. Uiteindeljk is Ferrari echter de grote verliezer. Seb kan nog steeds niet tegen de druk van Lewis en Charles moet zijn bravoure en vertrouwen weer terugvinden.
Maar dat duurt niet lang. Kwaliteit verloochend zich niet. Later dit seizoen zal Charles zich herpakken en Seb stelselmatig naar huis rijden. Dan zal blijken dat Sergio (hij wordt gemist) een juiste visie had.

  Ik vind Leclerc prima in het rijtje Massa, Barrichelo passen. Af en toe winnen en de rest met tranen in de ogen na de wedstrijd staan met teksten als "dit moeten we intern overleggen." Leclerc is samen met Gasly de grootste tegenvaller van het seizoen tot nu toe.

  Paar maal had Leclerc de overhand qua snelheid maar toen eindigde het in tranen door fouten, voor de rest is Vettel meestal gewoon de snellere.
  In een goede middenmoot Sauber 'shinen' naast een matige teammaat als Marcus is wel even iets anders dan in een Ferrari stappen en een 4 voudig kampioen naar huis rijden....
  Het zal best zo zijn dat Charles voldoende groei potentie heeft en op termijn Vettel stelselmatig gaat verslaan, maar vooralsnog ben ik nog niet echt onder de indruk..
