Honda vindt maas in de wet en verbreekt zegels van MGU-H en turbo Kvyat

Honda heeft de zegels verbroken van de nieuwe MGU-H en turbo in de bolide van Daniil Kvyat. Hierdoor heeft hij in vrije training 3 zijn vierde exemplaar van deze onderdelen gebruikt, waardoor toekomstige gridstraffen voor deze onderdelen niet 10, maar 5 plaatsen betreffen.

Kvyat zou de Grand Prix van Frankrijk hoe dan ook vanaf achteraan op de grid aanvangen. De Toro Rosso-coureur wisselde voorafgaand aan de race zijn verbrandingsmotor, MGU-K, Energy Store en Control Electronics. Voor alle onderdelen kwam hij boven de limiet, waardoor hij 40 plaatsen gridstraf zou krijgen. Daarvoor start Kvyat hoe dan ook vanaf de laatste plaats.

Honda heeft echter besloten om de verzegeling van de turbo en de MGU-H met opzet te verbreken. Normaal gesproken zit die verzegeling erop, zodat team niet tussen de races door kunnen sleutelen aan de krachtbron en er dingen aan kunnen vervangen. Honda heeft de verzegeling echter niet gebroken om veranderingen aan de motor door te voeren, maar simpelweg om de toekomstige gridstraffen lager uit te laten vallen.

De verzegeling van de turbo en de MGU-H werd verbroken bij Kvyat, maar voor aanvang van de derde vrije training moesten die onderdelen opnieuw verzegeld woorden. Een maas in het reglement stelt dat de Rus hierdoor technisch gezien zijn vierde turbo en MGU-H in gebruik heeft genomen tijdens VT3.

Ook met deze onderdelen zit hij hierdoor boven het maximum aantal toegestane exemplaren, wat ertoe leidt dat Kvyat ook voor dit vergrijp teruggezet wordt naar de laatste plaats op de grid. De Toro Rosso-coureur zou echter al van die positie vertrekken, dus extra last heeft hij daar niet van. Wel plukt hij er vruchten van als hij dit seizoen nogmaals nieuwe motorcomponenten moet gebruiken, want nu krijg hij hiervoor nog maar vijf plaatsen straf in plaats van tien.

  waarom? ze halveren hiermee de straf voor de volgende vergrijpen. Mercedes en Ferrari zullen niet veel hebben aan dit trucje. Meer dan een slimmigheidje is het ook niet hoor, dus maak je vooral niet druk. En wie weet dicht de FIA het maasje wel direct en is Kvyat uiteindelijk de enige met dit voordeeltje.

  In de praktijk werkt het trucje alleen als je 1 a 2 onderdelen vervangt. Bij 15 plekken straf is het sowieso achteraan starten. Indien je met alle onderdelen over de grens bent, kun je beter de hele PU wisselen dan een paar onderdelen. Straf is hetzelfde.

  @dreamsofpower: het was nu geen noodzaak, maar later in het seizoen wel. Alleen tellen de 4e mgu-k en turbo dan als nummer 5.

  @DutchF1, het zou niet slim zijn om het niet te doen op de manier zoals Honda het deed. Of het dan wel of niet slim is om het wel te doen mag ieder voor zich bepalen.
