Norris voelt zich meer op zijn gemak in F1-bolide dan in F2-auto

Lando Norris voelt zich in de Formule 1 beter op zijn gemak dan in de Formule 2. De McLaren-coureur stelt dat zijn huidige bolide fysiek een stuk minder zwaar is dan de auto die hij vorig jaar naar de tweede positie in de Formule 2 stuurde.

Hoewel het pas zijn debuutseizoen is, maakt Norris in 2019 een ijzersterke indruk. Hij staat in het kampioenschap dan wel fors achter teamgenoot Carlos Sainz, maar in de kwalificatie heeft de jonge Brit vooralsnog de overhand. De transitie vanuit de Formule 2 lijkt Norris goed af te gaan, wat volgens hem zelf komt doordat de auto's in de Formule 1 hem meer op het lijf geschreven zijn.

"Ik voel meer vertrouwen in een Formule 1-auto. Niet alleen omdat ik het goed heb gedaan, maar ook al aan het begin van het seizoen. Het was lastig om een ronde aan elkaar te plakken, maar ik voelde me meer op mijn gemak in deze auto dan vorig jaar in de Formule 2. Niet omdat het makkelijker is, maar omdat ik er een beter gevoel voor heb."

"Ik voel meer vertrouwen in de auto, weet beter waar de limiet ligt en kan er ook altijd op rijden. Dan is er ook nog de combinatie van werken met het team en veel voorbereiden op dit jaar. Mezelf kennende haalde ik vorig jaar niet het maximale eruit en daar werk ik aan. Net als ieder ander ben ik niet blij als ik het niet goed doe in de kwalificatie of race, dus mezelf op mijn donder geven laat mij uiteindelijk harder werken."

'Formule 2 fysiek veel zwaarder dan Formule 1'

Fysiek gezien heeft Norris het ook eenvoudiger in de Formule 1. "Ik heb in iedere klasse moeite gehad. In de Formule 2 iets minder, maar ik moest op bepaalde momenten nog wat inhalen. Met de stuurbekrachtiging is de Formule 1 een stuk aangenamer. De F2 is fysiek veel zwaarder voor de armen en bijna het hele lichaam dan de F1."

Het is te zot voor woorden dat een F2 auto fysiek veel zwaarder te rijden is dan een F1 auto, daar moet de FIA zich kapot voor schamen.

  Er zijn zoveel meer dingen waar de FIA zich voor kapot moet schamen. De mooie GP van Oostenrijk & Engeland hebben de F1 echt een beetje gered, en dan overdrijf ik niet.

  @DH Het is ook prima om met dit weer op teenslippers te lopen, maar om zo'n ding op een F1 auto te knuppen gaat mij ook 2 bruggen te ver.

  Zou dat ook te maken hebben met het feit dat ze in de race op 80% rijden van hun kunnen? Lift en coast en voorzichtig met de banden omgaan. Er wordt amper 'gepushed' tijdens een race heb ik het idee, vooral nadat ik Lewis in de laatste ronde op een versleten harde band de snelste ronde van de race heb zien rijden.

Prestaties in de ene klasse zijn ook geen garantie voor betere of mindere prestaties in een andere klasse, iets wat keer op keer bewezen wordt.
Je kan bijvoorbeeld nog zo goed zijn in de opstapklasses... dan nog kan je in de F1 door de mand vallen. En andersom is dus ook mogelijk. Volgens mij was het Kobayashi die in opstapklasses geen drol liet zien, maar in de F1 toch aardig tot zijn recht kwam.

Norris is in ieder geval een prachtig ventje, en nog bloedsnel ook. Echt een winnaar voor de toekomst!
Zit ook veel meer pit in dan die Stoffel... waar godzijdank niemand het meer over heeft.

De forumlezers hebben ook zo hun mening over de visie van team tot bolide, voor verbetering van jou kant (hobby) wordt je niet voor betaald, voor een vrijkaartje om de race in 2020 op je geboortegrond te bemachtigen.
Wie het eerst komt, komt nooit te laat... die vlieger gaat voor jou niet op.
