Steiner gaat strikt optreden tegen zijn coureurs in onderlinge duels

Haas F1 lijkt af te stevenen op teamorders voor de rest van het seizoen 2019. Teambaas Günther Steiner heeft aangegeven strikt te gaan optreden tegen zijn coureurs als ze het tegen elkaar opnemen op het asfalt.

Romain Grosjean en Kevin Magnussen hebben dit jaar meerdere keren op de baan een aanvaring met elkaar gehad. De laatste keer was afgelopen weekend in Duitsland, slechts twee weken nadat een soortgelijk incident een vroegtijdig einde maakte aan de race van beide coureurs. Hoewel beiden geen schade opliepen, vertelde Steiner na de race dat er actie ondernomen gaat worden om dergelijke incidenten te voorkomen.

Tevens vertelde de markante Italiaan dat hij het gesprek aan zou gaan met beide coureurs om te zien met wat voor oplossing ze kunnen komen voor de tweede helft van het seizoen. Dat moment vindt donderdag plaats in Hongarije, zo verzekerde Steiner tegenover onder andere GPToday.net op de Hungaroring. "Natuurlijk heb ik tijd gehad om te denken, want het is drie dagen geleden."

"Ik ben niet zo slim, maar in drie dagen kan ik wel iets bedenken. Vandaag ga ik met ze zitten en om te zien wat eruit gaat komen, daarna kunnen we verder. Dat is het enige wat ik kan doen. Misschien gaan we ze vertellen wie wat doet op moment dat ze dichtbij elkaar komen. De enige oplossing is duidelijk zijn. Als ze dichtbij elkaar zitten, kijken we verder."

Steiner prefereert niet in te grijpen, 'maar soms moet het'

Steiner geeft toe dat hij na de laatste botsing in Duitsland eerder opgelucht was dan teleurgesteld, maar desondanks gaat hij maatregelen nemen. "Na Hockenheim was het geen teleurstelling. Op dat moment ben je zelfs blij dat er niets gebeurde zoals op Silverstone. Het had weer kunnen gebeuren, dat ze de auto beschadigen en dat je weer geen punten pakt."

"Ik moet met iets komen om dit onder controle te krijgen, want het is onacceptabel en het hele team heeft er last van als je dit blijft doen. Ik probeer te voorkomen dat ik iets moet zeggen, want het is niet wat je wil doen. Op een gegeven moment word je er echter toe gedwongen."

Die laatste zou wel een logische zijn want is immers in dienst van Ferrari dit jaar en verdient nog wel een kans in F1 i.m.o
