Kvyat: "Formule 1 moet locaties met fans als in Mexico als prioriteit hebben"

Daniil Kvyat is blij dat de Mexicaanse Grand Prix een nieuw contract gekregen heeft. De coureur van Scuderia Toro Rosso vindt het belangrijk dat de Formule 1 locaties met gepassioneerde fans blijft bezoeken.

Het contract van Mexico met de Formule 1 zou eigenlijk na de editie van 2019 aflopen, maar het Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez wist een nieuw, driejarig contract te onderhandelen. De F1 blijft dus in ieder geval tot 2022 naar Mexico-Stad komen. Kvyat is blij dat de contractverlenging er is gekomen. Hij vertelde aan onder andere GPToday.net dat hij de grote fanbase van de sport in het land bijzonder kan waarderen.

“Het is erg positief. Het is een goede Grand Prix en volgens mij ook erg belangrijk voor de Formule 1. Iedere Grand Prix met zo’n fanbase zou erg hoog op de prioriteitenlijst van de F1 moeten staan. Voor mij is het dus erg belangrijk dat de Formule 1 races heeft waar duizenden en duizenden fans op de tribunes zitten.”

Kvyat looft Mexicaanse fans

In de afgelopen vier jaar ging de organisatoren iedere keer aan de haal met de award voor beste Grand Prix van het jaar. Kvyat begrijpt wel waarom. “Het is eerlijk dat ze die prijs gewonnen hebben. Er zijn ook andere goede races. Toen we hier in 2015 voor het eerst raceten, was het geweldig. Er was een enorm publiek. Dat was erg indrukwekkend. Voor mij als atleet is het erg belangrijk dat de fans echt houden van de sport en het echt waarderen. Ik verbaas me iedere keer in Mexico. We hebben enorm veel fans en dat is geweldig.”

Kvyat was in 2015 met P4 dichtbij het podium en hij baalde toen na afloop van de race flink dat hij in de top 3 eindigde. “Je kan het publiek in het stadion horen. Niet tijdens de race, maar het is indrukwekkend tijdens de rijdersparade. In het eerste jaar was ik dicht bij een podiumfinish, en ik baalde er echt van dat ik niet de sfeer kon proeven op het podium. Fucking Valtteri…"

  Kijk veel rond op andere sites waar onder andere veel Mexicanen in voor komen en inderdaad Mexicanen doen het liefst alles warmbloedig alleen is dat niet zo heel positief met gedragingen waar zelfs IS zich nog voor zou terug deinsen.
  
  In dat licht gezien is het verwonderenswaardig dat ze niet hetzelfde veiligheidsprobleem hebben als Sao Paulo.

  Verder ook eens met Kvyat..... De Mexicaanse GP is er eentje met een geweldige sfeer en een mooie baan die wat mij betreft op de kalender moet blijven....
