Horner over hobbelig asfalt in Austin: "Lijkt wel alsof circuit gezonken is"

Christian Horner is voorzichtig positief gestemd over de kansen van Red Bull Racing in de Verenigde Staten. De teambaas van het Oostenrijkse team zag Max Verstappen en Alexander Albon de eerste en derde tijd rijden in de eerste vrije training.

Red Bull Racing leek in Mexico over voldoende snelheid te beschikken om een goed resultaat neer te kunnen zetten, maar met een vijfde en zesde plaats aan de finish viel dat uiteindelijk dus wat tegen. Daarbij moet wel gezegd worden dat Verstappen vanaf de laatste positie nog weer terug wist te komen naar de top 6. In de eerste training op het Circuit of the Americas oogde Red Bull wederom sterk.

Verstappen was de snelste man van de sessie, terwijl Albon aansloot op P3. Dat biedt volgens Horner hoop voor de rest van het weekend. "Het resultaat in Mexico was teleurstellend, want we hadden daar een erg competitieve auto. Als we iets van die vorm hier in Austin kunnen vinden, dan is dat geweldig voor een sterk weekend. Het was ook een positieve eerste sessie voor Alex bij zijn eerste bezoek aan dit circuit."

Lewis Hamilton klaagde tijdens de eerste vrije training over het hobbelige wegdek in Austin. Dat was Horner ook opgevallen, zo vertelde hij aan Sky Sports F1. "Het lijkt wel alsof het circuit een beetje gezonken is. Het is inderdaad een beetje hobbelig en vooral bij het uitrijden van de pits zit een pittige hobbel. Dat is hetzelfde voor iedereen, dus je moet je er een weg door zien te banen en met de best mogelijke afstelling op de proppen komen."

  In mijn ogen is Schumacher ook niet de grootste... Toch heb ik wel respect voor de prestaties van zowel Lewis als Schumi. Senna staat nog altijd met stipt op nummer 1 bij mij, Gevolgd door Lauda en Gilles Villeneuve. De beste coureurs na 2000... Nog steeds het pure talent van Kimi Raikkonen en Verstappen erbij. Alonso staat qua talent in mijn beleving ook nog hoger dan zowel Lewis als Schumacher. Maar ieder zijn eigen kijk erop natuurlijk

  @kleinevoetballerwieanders. Ik sluit mij voor een groot deel aan bij Tyla. Senna was wel heel speciaal. Maar voor mj staat Lewis ook in mijn top 10 sinds 1950.
