Ferrari Formula 1 team principal Mattia Binotto says he would welcome a protest regarding the Italian team’s power unit should a rival submit one after the Mexican GP.
Before the start of the race rumours were swirling to the effect that a rival team may submit a protest against Ferrari, assuming that the Italian team gets a good result.

Speculation about Ferrari’s straightline performance has been mounting for some weeks, with rivals regularly pointing out how much they are losing out.

Binotto says a protest would in effect allow the team to clear its name amid the ongoing rumours.

Ferrari says its lack of straightline speed over the United States Grand Prix weekend was down to a setup experiment, rather than anything to do with its Formula 1 engine.

The team claimed that it ran its SF90 cars at higher downforce levels at Austin than it has done previously in 2019.

As Ferrari is upset that rival outfits were linking its drop in top speed to a technical directive issued by the FIA outlawing engine fuel flow tricks, it is not hiding away from the fact that its performance characteristic was different at Austin.

But instead of this being the result of any change in the power of its engine - with Ferrari clear that it altered "nothing" on its power unit - it says that what was new was the downforce approach.

Brazil

Ahead of the Brazilian GP, the FIA have released another technical directive to address the use of flammable liquid in an engine’s cooling system.

Last time out in Austin a TD was issued following Red Bull and Mercedes’ request to the FIA over the legality of a loophole in the fuel flow regulations which they suspected was behind Ferrari’s rapid upturn in form since the summer break.

The fact that Ferrari suffered a sizeable drop in performance during qualifying at the Circuit of the Americas and then even more so in the race with Charles Leclerc finishing 52 seconds behind winner Valtteri Bottas, added further fuel to the fire, pun intended.

Ik ga er verder niets meer over zeggen. Het ligt achter ons. Maar kijk er niet gek van op dat RB ook in ABU DHABI gewoon de Pole gaat pakken nu de reglementen voor motoren zijn dicht getimmerd.....

Ja ja, met een foutloze ronde van Leclerc. Dat vind ik geen vriendelijke felicitatie. Zoiets zeg je niet als je iemand feliciteert. De ronde waar Max zijn Pole behaalde was ook niet foutloos.

Volgens de regeltjes van de FIA had LeClerc zich juist nooit Pole kunnen kwalificeren.

Altijd zo,n bullshit comment,,, als leclerc geen fout had gemaakt DAN ,,, ja ,dan ,, man man ,en dat roept een teambaas....

Dan had 'ie maar geen fouten moeten maken hè. Feit is dat het kroonprinsesje weer fouten maakt en weer achter Vettel staat, en nergens meer is nu de kabels weer liggen zoals ze horen te liggen.
