Lando Norris twijfelde of hij 'goed genoeg was' ten opzichte van meer ervaren Sainz

Lando Norris geeft toe dat hij voorafgaand aan zijn debuutseizoen niet helemaal overtuigd was dat hij alle ingrediënten in huis had om met succes in de Formule 1 te racen.

Norris kreeg van McLaren de kans om zich in 2019 naast Carlos Sainz te bewijzen. Daardoor stond het team met een geheel nieuwe line-up aan de start. Met nog één race te gaan heeft McLaren de vierde positie bij de constructeurs veilig gesteld, terwijl in Brazilië de eerste podiumplaats sinds 2014 gepakt werd. De relatie tussen Norris en Sainz werd vaak besproken dit jaar, want ze lijken erg goed met elkaar op te kunnen schieten.

Norris begon niet zonder twijfels aan zijn eerste seizoen in de Formule 1: hij wist niet of hij Sainz bij zou kunnen houden, die al vier jaar ervaring had voor de start van deze jaargang. "Er zijn veel goede dingen", vertelt Norris over zijn debuutjaar. "Voorafgaand aan het seizoen had ik niet veel vertrouwen in hoe ik het ging doen. Ik ben blij dat ik mijn ongelijk bewezen heb, het goed gedaan heb en mezelf meer vertrouwen heb kunnen geven."

Norris wist snel vertrouwen op te doen

Norris had een belangrijk punt waaraan hij twijfelde: "Of ik wel goed genoeg was. Zo simpel is het. Ik wist niet of ik snel genoeg zou zijn ten opzichte van een coureur met vier jaar F1-ervaring. In de Formule 1 zijn zoveel goede coureurs en ik wist niet of ik het iedere keer goed genoeg zou doen. Ik geloofde niet echt in mezelf."

"Maar na Australië, Bahrein en daarna won ik al veel vertrouwen. Het was simpelweg gewoon omdat ik niet wist of ik in staat was om ze bij te houden. Als ik met dezelfde dingen zou zitten, had ik het waarschijnlijk niet gezegd, maar omdat ik meer vertrouwen heb en het team meer vertrouwen in mij heeft... Dat is een van de dingen waar ik blij mee ben, dat dit mij gelukt is."

buiten het feit dat ik hem meer als goed genoeg vind, vind ik het ook een aanwinst op de grip wat betreft zijn personality. ik vind het werkelijk een allersympathieke en leuke gast. op de en of andere manier vind hij altijd wel iets om een ander te laten lachen en totaal niet gemaakt.

zijn prestaties zijn geheel niet slecht hij mist de ervarin maar zal zeker gaan verbeteren, wat mij betreft blijft ie nog heel lang in de F1 , al zullen anderen daar wellcht anders over denken

  Het is een heel leuk joch waarmee je kan lachen en het talent druipt van die jongen af .. Ik sluit zelfs niet uit als Mclaren de aansluiting kan vinden in 2021 dat ie gewoon met de grote mannen kan meedoen

  Ik ben ook een Lando fan. Net als Jenson Button een gentleman. Leuk meegereden dit jaar en wil meer. Dat is goed.

Wat mij opvalt aan Norris is het ogenschijnlijke gemak waarmee hij racet. Soms op het laconieke af. Dat laat zijn grote talent zien, maar dat is ook een reden waarom ik denk dat hij nog veel groeipotentieel heeft. En met de Mercedes PU in het vooruitzicht denk ik dat Norris wel eens heel goed kan zitten qua team.

  Hij zal ook nog serieus moeten groeien. In onderlinge raceresultaten is het 8 - 2 voor Sainz en in zijn sterktepunt, kwalificeren, is het ook 10-9 voor Sainz.
  
  Norris heeft nog niet veel vooruitgang geboekt. Snel over één ronde, maar op racepace komt hij te kort. Hopelijk wordt het inderdaad nog wat beter.

Hij zal waarschijnlijk nog even moeten wennen aan het hele formule 1 circus , ik ben nog niet echt heel erg onder de indruk van Lando , ik had er ondertussen toch wat meer van verwacht

Het mooie aan Norris is, dat hij kritisch durft te zijn op zijn eigen prestaties.
Ik hoop dat hij volgend jaar wel iets agressiever gaat rijden, ik vind hem soms nog iets te vriendelijk in de duels.
