Daniil Kvyat tevreden over 2019: "Een van mijn beste F1-seizoenen"

Daniil Kvyat kijkt met een zeer goed gevoel terug op zijn terugkeer in de Formule 1. De Rus ziet zijn 2019 als een van zijn beste seizoenen in de koningsklasse van de autosport.

Een jaar na zijn gedwongen vertrek uit de Formule 1 haalde Toro Rosso Kvyat begin 2019 toch weer terug. De Rus lijkt zijn imago als ruwe coureur grotendeels afgeschud te hebben en maakte in de eerste helft van het seizoen een prima indruk. In Duitsland volgde een absoluut hoogtepunt met een tweede plaats in een chaotische regenrace. Voorafgaand aan Abu Dhabi kijkt Kvyat dan ook tevreden terug op zijn jaar.

"Ik ben erg tevreden. Eerlijk gezegd zou ik dit op gelijke hoogte plaatsen met een van mijn beste jaren in de Formule 1, dus ik ben behoorlijk blij. Sommige races vallen je kant op, andere races niet, maar zo werkt de middenmoot. Het is erg krap en een kleine fout kan je kansen kosten. Dat is onderdeel van onze sport. Ik denk dat ik dit jaar een betere coureur ben geweest dan in mijn laatste jaren."

2019 'een van sterkste seizoen ooit' voor Toro Rosso

Met twee podiumplaatsen denkt Kvyat dat 2019 een van de beste seizoenen ooit is voor Toro Rosso. "Het was absoluut een erg sterk jaar voor Toro Rosso, ik zou zeggen misschien wel de beste ooit. Het is natuurlijk geweldig om voor de hoge posities te kunnen strijden in het kampioenschap, de hoogste in de afgelopen jaren. Het is geweldig om daarvan én van de sfeer binnen het team onderdeel te zijn."

"Het team heeft altijd goed gepresteerd. Sinds het begin van het jaar zaten we redelijk consistent in de punten en we pakten redelijk goed onze kansen. Met de strategie pakten we soms punten die we niet hadden moeten pakken, maar soms was dat erg cruciaal. Nu vinden we ons aan het eind van het seizoen in een goede, sterke positie. Het is ook voor volgend jaar een goede boost."

Neen, totaal oneens. Kvyat laat weinig progressie zien en wordt ondergesneeuwd door alle andere RedBull coureurs. Die 3e plek dit jaar was leuk maar niet meer dan toeval. Kvyat laat te weining zien in zowel de kwalificatie als de races. Heel jammer dat er geen nieuwe RedBull rookies van topklasse zijn anders was dit zijn laatste seizoen geweest. Ik zou hem niet missen.

  ik beschouw 2019 als het seizoen dat Kvyat definitief door de mand gevallen is, Alex Albon zat in zijn allereerste seizoen gelijk op niveau Kvyat, en Gasly is sinds hij teruggezet is naar STR eigenlijk beter..
  Tel daarbij op de vage acties waar Kvyat zich schuldig aan blijft maken (hoewel ik de humor was zo'n clown wel inzie) en zijn algehele uitstraling (sorry vind het een pannenkoek eersteklas) , nee echt pure armoede dat ze hem nog een seizoen aanhouden...

  Eens. Ik heb wel eens het gevoel dat de F1 koste wat kost een Rus wil hebben in de F1. Nou van mij mogen ze weg.
