Ocon verwacht dat 'bijna alle ronderecords' verbroken worden in 2020

Esteban Ocon heeft hoge verwachtingen van de nieuwe F1-bolides voor het seizoen 2020. De auto's lijken wederom een klap sneller en de Renault-coureur verwacht dan ook dat er veel baanrecords gaan sneuvelen.

Na een jaar afwezigheid keert Ocon met Renault terug in de Formule 1. Vorig jaar legde hij als reservecoureur van Mercedes amper kilometers in een 2019-bolide af. Maandag stapte de Fransman voor het eerst in de Renault R.S.20 en direct was hij onder de indruk van de snelheid van de auto. Vooral in de bochten zijn de auto's volgens Ocon sneller dan ooit en hij heeft hoge verwachtingen van het nieuwe seizoen.

"Op maandag reed ik voor het eerst in de auto en het is indrukwekkend. Ik ben nooit eerder zo snel door bepaalde bochten gegaan", verklaarde Ocon na zijn eerste serieuze test met de nieuwe Renault-bolide. "Het is opwindend. We zullen ook sneller en sneller gaan. Ik denk dat we dit jaar alle ronderecords gaan breken."

Ocon heeft zich op zijn eerste testochtend nog niet bezig gehouden met het doen van een snelle run. Hij wil eerst het gevoel weer helemaal terugkrijgen, voordat hij zich daarmee bezig gaat houden. "Ik probeer het roest eraf te rijden. Het is een tijdje geleden dat ik op een fatsoenlijke manier te racen, waarmee ik bedoel dat ik naast mij nog iemand als referentie heb en dergelijke. Ik probeer gewoon nog op snelheid te komen. Het is belangrijk om deze rondetijden te rijden om te kunnen voelen hoe de auto reageert in trainings- of raceomstandigheden."

Tijden zeggen nu nog niks maar Renault maakt nog geen verpletterende indruk behalve dan die prachtige livery.
Relatief weinig ronden gereden waarna het allemaal erg lang duurde voor Danny naar buiten kwam. Die was ook al snel wat sneller dan Ocon.
We zullen het allemaal gaan zien maar als ik kijk naar bv de RB15 waar AT mee rijdt of de McLaren van Sainz vandaag dan denk ik dat Renault een zwaar seizoen tegemoet gaat.

  Als Ricciardo gedurende het seizoen sneller is dan Ocon (wat ik wel verwacht) dan is Ocon zijn kans op een zitje bij een topteam gewoon al verkeken.

  Knap, na 8 uur/ 1 dag testen dat je dat kan concluderen. Iedereen bouwt zo'n dag anders op. Enige wat je beetje kan zien is hoe de ligging van een auto is out of the box.

klopt. dacht ik ook al aan. Volgend jaar is even afwachten. Maar ook met die regels gaan er in 2022 weer records aan denk ik.
