Ricciardo blij met verloop eerste dag: "Kan niet veel meer vragen van zo'n dag"

Daniel Ricciardo is tevreden met het gevoel dat hij en Renault hebben opgedaan tijdens de eerste testdag in Barcelona. De Australiër kon merken dat de verbeteringen aan de R.S.20 hun vruchten afwierpen, maar conclusies wil hij nog niet trekken.

Renault besloot om de maandag op te delen en beide coureurs dus kennis te laten maken met de R.S.20, die maandag al door Ricciardo en Esteban Ocon over het circuit nabij Barcelona gestuurd werd. Woensdag volgden de eerste officiële testronden, waarbij Ocon de eer kreeg om de bolide als eerste uit te proberen. 's Middags was het de beurt aan Ricciardo, die blij was dat hij weer aan het werk mocht.

"Het is geweldig om weer te rijden en ik voelde me vanaf het begin redelijk op mijn gemak in de auto", vertelde Ricciardo na afloop van de eerste testdag van deze winter. "Esteban heeft de auto vanochtend natuurlijk goed opgewarmd en ik had het gevoel dat ik het bijna meteen te pakken had en in een ritme kwam toen ik in de middag in mocht stappen."

'Het ziet er veelbelovend uit'

Renault koos ervoor om de R.S.20 niet te onthullen tijdens een presentatie, maar om de auto gewoon de baan op te sturen tijdens de eerste testdag. Met een zwarte camouflage-livery werden een aantal details nog een beetje verborgen gehouden, maar desondanks waren er al een redelijk aantal aanpassingen te zien. Dat hoort volgens Ricciardo bij de veranderingen die doorgevoerd zijn om progressie te boeken.

"Er zitten verbeteringen op de auto en we hebben het visueel behoorlijk veranderd, wat duidelijk te zien is als je naar de neus kijkt. De verbeteringen zijn er en uiteindelijk is dat waar we op mikken. Het is nog te vroeg om vergelijkingen te maken, maar onze betrouwbaarheid was redelijk goed. Ik zou zeggen dat het er veelbelovend uitziet. Je kan niet veel meer vragen van een eerste dag, dus ik ben er blij mee.

Ricciardo kwam tot 56 ronden in de middagsessie en daarin noteerde hij een 1:17.873 als snelste ronde. Teamgenoot Esteban Ocon was ruim een tiende langzamer, reed 62 ronden en bezette de achtste positie in de eindrangschikking.

Ik hoop voor Daniel dat het er goed uit ziet en gun het beste man om te shinen in deze Renault.
Is dit de hand van Pat Fry die de auto heeft doen veranderen? Kon zo snel niet vinden wie de "chief" designer van de RS20 is.
Verder gun ik het Renault om weer mee te draaien in de top, ofschoon ik een bloedhekel heb aan Abietezooi & Ocon.
Tot slot wil ik tegen Renault zeggen: Houd deze livery, want deze simpele zwarte livery met gele en witte accenten is gewoon de coolste van de grid! Misschien kan men nog wat zaken geel maken die nu wit zijn om het geheel te Renaultificeren.

Helemaal zwart met alle logo's knalgeel zal waarschijnlijk mooier zijn dan waar ze straks mee komen.

Ik gun RIC echt alle goeds, maar team Renault is imo het meest onsympathieke team dat meedoet. Jammer dat hij daar zit, had 'm graag in de Alfa gezien naast Kimi ofzo. Een team waar ik makkelijk fan van wordt.
Ik verwacht dat Williams nog steeds achteraan rijdt, en dat Haas en dan Renault komt, met Alfa. Maw..ik geloof er (nog) niet in.

  Dat onsympathieke element komt dan vooral door Cyril A.
  Bovendien heeft Renault nu niet het meest sexy imago en is het een overheidsbedrijf.
  
  Verder is het een mooie testlivery inderdaad. Benieuwd hoe de wagen er finaal zal gaan uitzien, al denk ik dat de kleurstelling uiteindelijk vergelijkbaar zal zijn met die van 2019.
  
  Renault verwacht ik net achter Mclaren en (zeker in de eerste helft) achter Racing Point. Al is het uiteraard allemaal nog wat koffiedik kijken, zeker voor wat het dikbezaaid middenveld betreft.
