Seidl erg positief: "Data komt overeen met de verwachting"

Tijdens de testweek in Barcelona hebben de teams ruimte om verschillende dingen te testen. Mercedes kwam met een innovatief snufje, zo kan de coureur de wielen bedienen met een systeem genaamd DAS. McLaren probeerde ook verschillende dingen, teambaas Seidl is er erg tevreden mee.

McLaren was één van de grootste verrassingen van vorig jaar. Na een mindere tijd met Honda en de tijd die het team nodig had om terug te kruipen naar de top, is het team dit jaar van plan om bij die top te kunnen aansluiten. Tijdens de testweken van 2019 was McLaren al snel, maar naar mate het jaar verliep was het team steeds vaker bij de top te vinden.

De winter testweken van de Formule 1 zijn ook dit jaar weer in Barcelona, waar de teams updates zullen testen, verschillende aerodynamische dingen en alle andere innovaties. Andreas Seidl is erg tevreden met de data die het team nu ontvangt: "Deze week willen we nog steeds de prestaties van de auto verbeteren, zoals hij nu al doet. We voegen elke dag beetje bij beetje toe aan de auto. Ik ben blij met de gegevens die we tot nu toe hebben gezien. Het komt overeen met de informatie die we in de fabriek hadden ingecalculeerd", zo bevestigt hij tegenover GPToday.net.

De coureurs van McLaren mogen hun sessies zelf invullen, maar ze moeten wel serieus blijven. "Ik vind het belangrijk dat de coureurs vrijheid hebben, maar ze moeten serieus en gefocust zijn wanneer de tijd komt en wij het vragen."

Deze week wordt er nog volop getest, voordat de teams vertrekken naar Melbourne, waar de eerste race van het 2020-seizoen op de kalender staat.

  Misschien dat RP in de eerste paar races voor McLaren eindigt, maar ik schat McLaren hoger in qua ontwikkelingen tijdens het seizoen...
  Hoop in ieder geval ook dat McLaren een aantal keren een podium kan pakken en zeker dichter bij de top 3 staat!!! :)

  @mario: Dat denk ik ook. Tegelijk zie ik Mercedes her en der nog wel een handje toesteken als het hen zelf een voordeel brengt in het WK - bijvoorbeeld indien ze alsnog een moeilijkere strijd dienen aan te gaan met RB of Ferrari en Racing Point kunnen laten opdraven als 'spelbreker'.

Ik denk dat McLaren een moeilijk seizoen tegemoet gaat. Concurrenten zoals Racing Point en Alpha Tauri lijken een flinke stap vooruit gemaakt te hebben met hun "jahreswagen". Daarbij komt dat dit het laatste jaar is van de samenwerking met Renault als motorleverancier die tevens al heeft aangegeven dit jaar minder te investeren in de doorontwikkeling andere de motor.
