Mika Salo: "Silly season voor 2021 zal veel later op gang komen"

Afgelopen zondag zou de Formule 1 haar eerste race gehad hebben van het seizoen 2020. Zoals bij iedereen bekend werd de race in Australië afgeblazen door een coronabesmetting bij McLaren. Normaal gesproken komen na enkele races de eerste geruchten op gang en worden in de maand mei of juni de eerste contracten afgesloten voor het volgende seizoen.

Door de situatie met het coronavirus zal het zogeheten 'silly season' voor 2021 veel later op gang komen, zo is de mening van Mila Salo. Tegenover MTV vertelde hij dat het nog wel eens lang kan duren voordat de eerste contractbesprekingen van 2021 plaats gaan vinden.

Moeilijke situatie voor jonge coureurs

Daarnaast voorziet Salo een ander probleem: "Deze situatie zal ervoor zorgen dat het lastiger en moeilijker wordt voor jonge coureurs om in de F1 te komen. Je hebt punten nodig voor een superlicentie, maar nu alle raceklassen niet rijden zullen ze die punten ook niet kunnen verzamelen."

Het silly season zal hierdoor overzichtelijker worden maar ook getroffen worden. Rond de zomer zijn er altijd volop speculaties maar dat zal nu langer duren. De voormalig teamgenoot van Jos Verstappen bij Tyrrell zegt hierover: "Contracten moeten worden opgesteld maar er is geen data beschikbaar - geen resultaten, waarop men de contracten gaat baseren en beslissingen kan nemen."

"Het zal nog lang duren voordat het silly season echt op gang komt. Het zal zeker niet zo vroeg beginnen als afgelopen jaar, misschien pas na de zomerstop."

Toch benieuwd wat dat contract en transfer technisch voor gevolgen gaat hebben.

Niet helemaal waar. We hebben een nieuw soort silly season en dat is al volop bezig. Welke races worden nog gereden en wanneer. Daarnaast, welke teams staan volgend jaar nog op de lijst. Niet het soort silly season waar ik me op verheug
