F1 steekt de gezondheidszorg een helpende hand toe

De Formule 1 ondervindt sportief en financieel gezien uiteraard hinder van de wereldwijde uitbraak van het coronavirus, maar gezondheid is in deze crisis het enige dat telt. Dat besef leeft duidelijk ook binnen de gelederen van de koningsklasse van de autosport, getuige de initiatieven die de teams en ook coureurs de voorbije weken en dagen hebben ondernomen.

Zo sloegen de zeven in Groot-Brittannië gevestigde teams - te weten Red Bull Racing, Mercedes, Racing Point, McLaren, Williams, Renault en Haas F1 - de handen ineen om de Britse overheid te helpen bij de behandeling van coronapatiënten. Onder de noemer 'Project Pitlane' bundelen de renstallen hun kennis en capaciteiten sinds twee weken om bijvoorbeeld beademingsapparatuur te ontwikkelen en produceren.

Een eerste resultaat daarvan vloeide voort in beademingsapparatuur waardoor coronapatiënten niet langer per se op de intensive care verzorgd hoeven te worden. Hiervoor werkte Mercedes samen met de universiteit van Londen. Andy Cowell, directeur van de motorafdeling van de Duitse renstal in Brixworth: "De Formule 1-gemeenschap heeft de roep om hulp gehoord en daar op indrukwekkende wijze op gereageerd."

Ondertussen nam McLaren-coureur Lando Norris dit weekend deel aan een online race-evenement voor het goede doel. Meer dan 2,7 miljoen dollar werd opgehaald door de United Nations Foundation voor de wereldgezondheidsdienst WHO in strijd tegen corona. Op eigen titel zamelde Norris 12.000 dollar in. Als tegenprestatie gaat wel zijn haar eraf, want hij had beloofd bij meer dan 10.000 dollar zijn kop kaal te scheren.

    Ik meende dat de beademingsapparatuur ontwikkeld door het F1 consortium (alle teams in Engeland) inmiddels groen licht hebben gekregen en 10.000 zijn besteld door de Britse overheid. Hiermee zou de IC niet langer meer nodig zijn voor de juiste behandeling. Phillips levert een vergelijkbaar aantal in Nederland. Maar die apparatuur schijnt standaard te zijn (dus niet doorontwikkeld). Even wat positief nieuws tussen door moet kunnen toch?

      Ik kijk nu naar het BBC nieuws. Het is wel degelijk Mercedes samen met de universiteit. Niet het consortium.

      Ik meende dat de 7 teams allen hun inbreng hebben op het technisch vlak, maar het vernieuwde model is uitgedragen door Mercedes. Ik kan me vergissen, maar dan hoor ik t graag!

      Een nog grotere "hands-up" voor de mensen in de zorg , wat zal het daar nu hard werken zijn en iedere dag komen er weer vele patiënten bij , om moedeloos van te worden eigenlijk , maar ze gaan er nog steeds helemaal voor , diepe buiging voor die mensen.
      Het zou dan ook zeer terecht zijn als er na deze crisis een mooie eerbetoon komt voor alle mensen in de zorg , met mooie toespraken op tv een groot concert genaamd " a tribute to heroes"

    Nobel hoor,maarzou leuk zijn als ze eens met conctrete plannen kemen ipv uitstellen.
    Of heel 2020 down the drain of nu eens zeggen wanneer de boel gaat starten.

      De teams zelf hebben daar weinig over te vertellen. Zolang veel landen een lockdown hebben gebeurt er niks.
      En plannen zonder zekerheden schiet ook niet op. Eerst zekerheid en dan plannen. En welkom op het forum.

      Wow, als eerste bijdrage hier kom je wel meteen met de deur in huis vallen zeg. De F1 teams doen fantastisch werk om de gezondheidszorg bij te staan en medische apperatuur snel te ontwikklen en meneertje Pierluigi Campari klaagt dat ie zich verveelt en dat hij vindt dat de F1 teams eerst even met concrete plannen moeten komen.

      Sneue rakker ben je als je zelfs hierop nog negatief weet te reageren.
