FIA en FOM bezig met noodfonds voor financiële steun

De internationale autosportbond FIA en commerciële rechtenhouder FOM zijn bezig een noodfonds voor Formule 1-teams op te zetten om de huidige coronacrisis het hoofd te bieden. Dat liet Alfa Romeo-teambaas Frederic Vasseur weten aan L'Equipe. Financiële noodhulp is zeer welkom nu de inkomsten opdrogen. Vooral de kleine teams zullen elk initiatief voor steun toejuichen.

Vasseur: "De FIA en de FOM hebben reeds een aantal suggesties gedaan. Ze snappen dat we hier samen uit moeten komen en FIA-voorzitter Jean Todt heeft hier al kort wat over gezegd tijdens de vorige vergadering. Hij is bereid om met ons naar werkbare oplossingen te zoeken. De kosten moeten omlaag, dat is in ieders belang. De FIA is zich bewust van de precaire situatie waarin de teams zich nu bevinden. We moeten al onze opties zorgvuldig afwegen en er alles aan doen om de kosten te reduceren."

De kleine teams hoeven zich geen zorgen te maken, de FIA en de FOM laat ze niet stikken. Dat valt op te maken uit de woorden van Red Bull-motorsportadviseur Helmut Marko. "Geen van de teams loopt echt het risico om te vallen, want in geval van nood bestaan plannen voor economische hulp. Teams zullen financiële steun ontvangen indien dit nodig blijkt."

De tijd van ongelimiteerd spenderen zou daarmee ten einde kunnen komen, ook met het oog op de invoering van een budgetlimiet in 2021. BMW-motorsportbaas Jens Marquardt: "In mij ogen zijn de tijden dat autosport verschrikkelijke hoeveelheden geld over de balk smijt nu echt voorbij. Autosport blijft van belang, ook voor autofabrikanten. Neem de Formule E, dit is voor ons een innovatief en technologisch laboratorium. Maar als ik dan hoor dat bij sommige Formule 1-teams 2000 man aan twee auto's werken, zulke astronomische uitgaven zijn straks echt niet meer te rechtvaardigen."

Jarenlang dezelfde teams en coureurs op het podium ben ik wel een beetje zat.

Hopelijk wordt dat noodfonds goed dicht getimmerd,want anders krijg je weer dat er weer een team is dat een maas in het fonds vindt er zo meer uitsleept dan een ander team.

Hopelijk is deze crisis niet de aanleiding voor een eenheidsworst klasse met nog meer standaard dingen en beperkingen.

  Een podium met McLaren, Williams en Haas . Zou mooi zijn als ook kleinere teams weer mee zouden doen. Helemaal eenheidsworst hoeft ook weer niet. F1 is toch ook techniek. maar de big spenders maken de sport wel kapot
