Ferrari weigerde verder uitstel voor nieuwe reglementen

De ingrijpende reglementswijzigingen die voor 2021 gepland stonden zijn reeds uitgesteld tot 2022 om de Formule 1-teams dit jaar niet op kosten te jagen. Als Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner het voor het zeggen had gehad, dan was de introductie van de nieuwe regels uitgesteld tot 2023, om de uitgaven ook volgend jaar nog te drukken. De internationale autosportbond FIA en de Formule 1-leiding gingen daar echter niet in mee.

Ook Ferrari weigerde om medewerking te verlenen aan verder uitstel. De Scuderia deed dit vanuit competitief oogpunt, stelt Horner in gesprek met Sky Sports F1. "Ik drong aan op uitstel tot 2023 voor de nieuwe reglementen. Kijkend naar de kosten kon Ferrari zich er wel in vinden, maar hun auto is misschien niet zo competitief en dus willen ze juist de kans om met een blanco vel papier opnieuw te beginnen."

Dat laatste geldt voor wel meer teams en dus konden de renstallen geen consensus bereikten over verder uitstel. Horner vervolgt: "Natuurlijk denken alle teams uit de achterste regionen van het veld dat een nieuwe start een kans is om de pikorde overhoop te schoppen. De realiteit is dat er niks zal veranderen, behalve dat je een berg aan extra kosten moet maken volgend jaar."

Over het algemeen heerst er eensgezindheid in de aanpak van de huidige crisis, benadrukte Horner. "De teams zijn het aardig met elkaar eens en focussen zich echt op de grootste kostenposten. Grote teams, middenmoters, kleine teams; de neuzen wijzen dezelfde richting op. Door een groot deel van de auto - ongeveer 60 procent - te bevriezen voor 2021 blijven er alleen nog aerodynamische ontwikkelingen over. Dat is een juiste stap om de kosten terug te dringen."

Je zou toch denken dat het juist voor Ferrari een groter probleem levert dan Red Bull of Mercedes... Ik bedoel: Italie is niet bepaald vlot op de been straks na corona. Aandelen van Ferrari gaan slecht... budgetlimiet dat hun huidige besteedbare vrijheid beperkt is dan al in gegaan... op 2021 na, lijkt me 2022 het meest slechte scenario voor Ferrari

  Behalve als ze nu een auto hebben die ontworpen was op een motor die niet meer gebruikt mag worden. Dan moet je nog twee jaar aan een slechte auto sleutelen, wat kosten met zich meebrengt terwijl het in 2023 weer door het putje kan.

  Mee eens @Arie54! Zo snel mogelijk naar vernieuwing en bijkomende verrassingen. Dus geen voorspelbare races en uitslagen hopelijk.

eens, wil dit ook niet uitstellen want de wagens moeten aangepast worden zodat er hopelijk wat verschil komt dan alleen maar mercedes en Hamilton die gewoon dominant zijn over het algemeen!

  Alleen als je een langere tijd dezelfde regels hanteert zullen de teams dichter bij elkaar komen. Tegen de tijd dat de middenmoot de kans heeft om aan te haken wijzigen ze de regels weer.
