Montoya: "Williams is de wanhoop nabij maar blijft mensen in dienst nemen"

Juan Pablo Montoya was in zijn periode bij Williams en McLaren een goede concurrent van Michael Schumacher. De Colombiaan had het vaak aan de stok met de Duitser, zowel op als naast de baan. Als één van de weinige coureurs schuwde hij het duel met de Ferrari-coureur niet.

Veel medewerkers op verkeerde plaats

De meeste successen kende Montoya bij Williams. Toch uit hij kritiek op de huidige gang van zaken en ziet veel misgaan bij zijn oude werkgever, zo zegt hij in gesprek met motorsport.com: "Ik denk dat Williams te veel mensen heeft werken op de verkeerde plaats. Als iemand goed is in zijn werk, wil het niet zeggen dat hij dat ook is op een ander vlak of als je hogerop gaat. Als je een werknemer hebt die goed is in het uitvoeren van een bepaalde taak, laat hem dan vooral die taak uitvoeren. Besteed zulke dingen niet uit aan mensen die er niet goed in zijn."

Wanhopig

Volgens de 44-jarige coureur is de wisseling van de wacht bij Williams geen goed teken. Het team mist stabiliteit. In tien jaar tijd had Williams zes verschillende technisch directeuren met Sam Michael, Mike Coughlan, Pat Symonds, Paddy Lowe, Patrick Head en nu Jonathan Carter om het technische team te leiden en te leiden.

Montoya: "Williams is wanhopig en blijft maar mensen inhuren en in dienst nemen. Zij denken dat ze de problemen op die manier wel even kunnen plossen maar ze vergeten al het talent dat ze al in huis hebben. Ik hoop dat Williams dit te boven komt maar er moet veel geld ingepompt worden om er iets beters van te maken dan het nu is."

  Haha, die Montoya. Die is naar mijn weten nooit slank geweest. Die had tijdens z'n Williamsperiode, ondanks dieet en trainingsprogramma, alsnog een buikje!
