FIA: "Voorlopig blijven deze corona maatregelen in de F1-paddock"

De Formule 1 zal vasthouden aan het 'nieuwe normaal' voor de eerste acht races die tot nu toe bekend zijn gemaakt voor 2020. Het hele Formule 1-, Formule 2 en Formule 3-circus op de Red Bull Ring is beperkt tot slechts 2000 mensen, waarbij FIA-racedirecteur Michael Masi bevestigt dat 57 afzonderlijke 'bubbels' en 'enkele honderden subgroepen' het risico van het coronavirus laag houden.

Mercedes-reservecoureur Stoffel Vandoorne is in de regio, maar zit met twee laptops op zijn hotelkamer. Helmut Marko is uiteraard in de F1-paddock maar mag niet naar de F2 of F3-paddock om met de Red Bull-junior coureurs te praten. Toto Wolff zegt dat het wel enigszins vreemd is in Oostenrijk, ondanks dat er geen mensen meer zijn met corona.

Grote verschillen per land

Michael Masi legt uit: "Voor de buitenwereld lijkt het een overdreven reactie, vooral in landen waar er in het normale leven al veel ontspanning is. Maar we hebben een verantwoordelijkheid. We willen de buitenwereld laten zien dat we handelen volgens de hoogste veiligheidsnormen. Als we dat niet zouden doen en er zou iets gebeuren, zouden er vingers naar ons wijzen."

"Oostenrijk bevindt zich in een goede positie, maar het is niet hetzelfde in Groot-Brittannië. We willen een procedure die overal werkt. Het zou geen zin hebben om deze elke week bij te stellen", voegde de FIA-functionaris eraan toe.

Overrompeld in Australië

Masi zei dat hij er zeker van is dat de maatregelen die de FIA heeft genomen makkelijk een coronavirusinfectie kan doorstaan, in tegenstelling tot in Australië, waar het hele evenement werd afgeblazen.

"De situatie in Melbourne heeft ons overrompeld. We hebben nu processen die positieve gevallen tijdig kunnen onderscheppen. Natuurlijk willen we de fans zo snel mogelijk terug op de tribune, maar ik verwacht geen grote veranderingen in ons proces. We willen consistent zijn voor alle aankomende evenementen en deze niet wijzigen afhankelijk van de situatie in het betreffende land."

  Haha,zal mij een zorg zijn,maar ze doen bij de F1 zo overdreven met interviews en monkapjes.
  Alleen om te laten zien hoe het hoort in de wereld,maar met zo'n foto slaan ze de plank toch wel mis als je het braafste jongetje van de klas wil zijn.

  Lees overal dat zijn 1e tijd dan gehandhaafd blijft,maar bij Max vorig jaar in Mexico waren de stewards minder vergevinsgezind.

  Het F1 circus doet aan viruswaanzin in het kwadraat! Complete onzin al die bubbels en regels. Iedereen die daar op het circuit rondloopt wordt vantevoren en ter plaatse uitvoerig getest en niemand heeft dus iets. Hoe zouden ze elkaar dan nog met iets kunnen besmetten als iedereen superclean is?
