Video: Engineer Esteban Ocon boos op zichzelf

Esteban Ocon hield gisteren tijdens de kwalificatie George Russell op. Dit was niet zijn intentie, maar zijn engineer zat enigszins te slapen aan de pitmuur. Die informeer de Fransman over een langzaam rijdende Giovinazzi voor hem, maar vlak hierachter kwam Russell op volle snelheid in zijn snelle ronde.

De Brit kon niet links of rechts omdat Giovinazzi links reed en rechts op de ideale lijn Ocon hem ophield. Over de boordradio baalt de engineer van Ocon meteen. Voor Ocon betekent dit tevens niet de elfde maar de veertiende startplaats aangezien hij een gridpenalty heeft gekregen. Ook ontvangt hij 1 strafpunt op zijn licentie.

    Los van dit incident wordt Ocon volledig om zijn oren gereden door Ricciardo. Het enige moment waarop dit niet zo was, was in de regenachtige kwalificatie in Oostenrijk, maar dat herstelde Ricciardo een dag later ook meteen.

    Hongarije was het meest bedroevend, toen Ric in de punten finishte en Oco op P14 en ook hier in Engeland zijn de verschillen steeds enorm.

    Het laat mijn inziens twee dingen zien:
    1. Ricciardo is gewoon echt heel goed. Nog wel wat minder dan een Hamilton of Verstappen maar daarachter is Ricciardo echt hele goede subtop. McLaren gaat hier zoveel plezier aan beleven!
    2. Ocon is niet slecht maar ook niet veel beter dan gemiddeld. Tegenover Perez zat ie ongeveer op gelijk niveau en Toto heeft gelijk gekregen door hem niet aan de wagen te zetten.

    Eerder dit weekend zag ik Abiteboul ook opzichtig balen, en terecht!
    Die auto maakt trouwens wel stappen zeg!
    Stiekem vind ik ook dat Renault de vetste livery heeft!

      Ja die ocon krijgt het goed aan de broek van ric, terwijl hij zelf denkt dat hij op niveau ver rondrijdt.
      Ik snap dan ook nog steeds zijn unlap actie niet in Brazilië 2018.
      Gevalletje van gewogen en te licht bevonden !

      Ocon denkt en gelooft dat hij het niveau van Verstappen, Leclerc, Vettel en Hamilton heeft. In werkelijkheid is hij meer een Magnussen, Perez. Best prima, maar zal nooit kampioen worden.

      Dit is eigenlijk het verschil dat ik verwachtte tussen Ricciardo en Ocon voor het seizoen. Maar vorige race verbaasde Ocon me door erg goed te rijden, voor zijn banden te zorgen en... wat hij in zijn laatste jaar wel 5 tot 10 keer fout deed: buitenom inhalen, doorzetten en vervolgens zichzelf buiten de baan laten duwen. Dat deed hij vorige race plots goed. Hij haalde buitenom in, zag dat het niet ging lukken en liftte. Toen had hij een ijzersterke race.
      Ik wacht de race nog even af, want de Renault lijkt op rails te liggen en dat is goed voor de race.

    Ocon heeft te veel babels probeerde vorige week Max nog een oor aan te naaien tijdens een VT nu is hij zelf aan de beurt.
    Hij moet zich meer op zich zelf concentreren en zorgen dat hij verder voorop staat anders gaat het niet goed komen.

      Je slaat de spijker op zijn kop. Het lijkt soms zelfs alsof Ocon in een fantasiewereld leeft waarin hij met Max om de prijzen aan het strijden is, maar de realiteit is dat hij in het middenveld rijdt en eerst eens fatsoenlijk in de buurt moet komen van zijn teamgenoot.

      Hij kijkt teveel naar Max maar dat moet nu helemaal niet zijn doel zijn.

      Bij Gasly zie ik die arrogantie niet. Bij Prost dan weer wel maar die was natuurlijk ook heel goed.

      Arrogantie vind ik niet eens misplaatst zolang je wat laat zien, en Ocon laat veel te weinig zien om de houding te verantwoorden die hij de laatste jaren aanneemt.

      Ik denk dat het vooral te maken heeft met de junioren tijd van doen had, de F3 (of hoe dat toen ook heette) Snoeiharde gevechten tussen de twee. Ocon werd de kampioen en hij heeft ook later gezegd dat het voor hem moeilijk te verkroppen was dat hij als kampioen naar F2 moest en dat Verstappen nog voor het eind van het seizoen een contract tekende om in F1 te gaan rijden.

      Ocon was 1 van de besten in de F3, maar uiteraard reed hij in de beste auto.

      Ik denk dat hij jaloers is op verstappen. Ik denk inderdaad dat je gelijk hebt Edward.

      Overigens over arrogantie gesproken. Je mag zeggen van Prost wat je wil. Maar hij was vooral realistisch, kende zijn beperkingen en zijn sterke punten heel goed. Die vond ik absoluut niet arrogant. Ik vond hem vooral realistisch.
      Ik kan me een aantal maal zelfs herinneren dat hij terwijl ze in het zelfde team zaten over Senna vertelde dat Senna een betere race craft had dan hij.

      Juist dat realisme en gebruik makend van zijn sterke punten wist hij een aantal maal Senna te verslaan en kampioen te worden. Met de huidige regels was Prost zelfs 1 maal meer kampioen geweest omdat hij in het eerste kampioensjaar van Senna meer punten had dan Senna.

      Prost werd niet voorniets Le Professeur genoemd. En hij heette niet Le orgueilleux. (heb even niet gekeken of het mannelijk of vrouwelijk woord is, dus correct me if I'm wrong)

      Maar ik respecteer de mening over arrogantie.
