Ferrari-teambaas hoopt dat Mercedes in F1 blijft

Mattia Binotto hoopt dat Mercedes ook na 2020 actief blijft in de Formule 1. De opmerking van de Ferrari-teambaas komt nadat zijn Mercedes-tegenhanger, Toto Wolff, op Silverstone zei dat de regerende kampioenen niet klaar zijn om het Concorde Agreement voor 2021 te ondertekenen, waardoor ze dreigen uit de Formule 1 te stappen.

In Hongarije gaf Wolff onlangs aan een hekel te hebben aan teams als Ferrari vanwege hun 'belachelijke commentaren' over het feit dat ze klaar waren om het document te ondertekenen, terwijl anderen dat niet zijn. Nu bevestigt de Oostenrijker dat Mercedes niet blij is met de voorwaarden die Liberty Media biedt. Wolff: "Ik zou zeggen dat we in dit alles het grootste slachtoffer zijn in termen van verlies van prijzengeld."

Mercedes heeft geen voordeel

Wolff legde uit dat Ferrari daarentegen een 'voordelige positie' heeft onderhandeld, terwijl Red Bull financieel profiteert door twee teams te hebben. "Dus wij zijn het die het meest worden gekwetst. We hebben het gevoel dat we tijdens die onderhandelingen niet zijn behandeld zoals we hadden moeten zijn."

Binotto hoopt dat Mercedes blijft

Binotto hoopt dat Mercedes uiteindelijk besluit te tekenen. Binotto zei tegen La Gazzetta: "Ik weet niet wat de positie van Mercedes zal zijn, dat is aan hen om te beslissen. Ik hoop dat ze zullen tekenen. Ik denk dat het geweldig is om Mercedes volgend jaar en de jaren daarna bij ons te hebben."

McLaren-supremo Zak Brown maakt zich echter geen zorgen dat Mercedes de Formule 1 zal verlaten vanwege de ruzie. Brown zei hierover: "Ik geloof dat alle tien teams die vandaag in de Formule 1 strijden in 2021 op de grid zullen staan, dus ik maak me er niet al te veel zorgen over."

"McLaren zet zich in voor de Formule 1 en ik weet zeker dat alle anderen mee zullen doen, of ze nu allemaal tegelijkertijd tekenen of dat we allemaal apart tekenen. Ik ben er zeker van dat je al deze tien teams volgend jaar op de grid zult zien."

  Als RBR hard doorontwikkelt, iets waar ze elk jaar na een valse start wel goed in zijn, dan kan 2021 zelfs al leuk zijn. Ik verwacht niet dat RP zelfstandig hun huidig niveau kunnen vasthouden. En Ferrari moet het voorlopig hebben van Leclerc die dingen doet met de SF1000 die groot respect verdienen.
  Renault maakt wel stappen, zo ook McLaren. Zou mooi zijn als die nog wat aanschuiven bij de frontrunners. Maar geen illusie, ze liggen einde race alsnog op ongeveer een ronde achterstand....
