Esteban Ocon ziet Jerez meer als een testcircuit met weinig inhaalmogelijkheden

Esteban Ocon zegt blij te zijn als Istanbul en Jerez worden toegevoegd aan de aangepaste F1-kalender van 2020. Het gerucht gaat dat de Formule 1 op het punt staat nog vijf races toe te voegen aan de reeds 13 tellende F1-kalender, nadat die flink is aangepast door het coronavirus.

Bahrein zal naar verwachting twee races organiseren en het seizoen wordt afgesloten in Abu Dhabi. De geruchten over locaties als het voormalige Turkse Grand Prix-circuit in Instanboel en circuit van Jerez in het zuiden van Spanje blijven aanhouden. Deze locaties zouden een kans maken om in november op de kalender te komen.

Renault-coureur Esteban Ocon werd afgelopen weekend gevraagd wat hij ervan vond als deze locaties zouden worden toegevoegd: "Turkije is een fantastisch circuit en het zou geweldig zijn als het weer op de kalender komt."

"Wat Jerez betreft, ik heb daar vaak getest, maar ik heb er nog nooit op geracet. Het circuit lijkt mij moeilijk om daar in te halen. In mijn ogen is het meer een testcircuit dan een racecircuit, maar dat kan altijd worden gewijzigd.

"Ik ken de baan goed, dus ik ben klaar voor dat weekend als het op de kalender komt te staan."

Waar slaat deze reactie op? Ik ben absoluut geen fan van Ocon (erg arrogante coureur) maar zijn opmerking over Jerez is gewoon juist. Dat is nou niet echt een circuit waar je veel mooie inhaalacties gaat zien.

    Inhalen gaat daar prima met blauwe vlaggen .
    Ocon leid nog steeds aan grootheidswaanzin , moeten misschien alleen de spiegels van een bestelbus erop zetten.

    Eens, al geldt dat natuurlijk voor nog veel meer circuits. Barcelona zonder DRS is bijvoorbeeld ook zo een voorbeeld, en wat te denken van het verschrikkelijk saaie Abu Dhabi.

    Wel heel gaaf dat Istanbul terug komt. Heb ik altijd al een leuke baan gevonden en vond het destijds jammer dat deze van de kalender af ging.

    Overigens totaal off topic en terugkomend op de crash van Ocon in VT3. Onboard van Russel: Engineer draagt Russel settings te doen. Vervolgens crasht Ocon net voor hem. Russels droge antwoord: Yeah. Red flag. Zonder enige emotie.
    Ik word toch steeds meer fan van dat mannetje.

    Waarom zijn ze eigenlijk weg gegaan in Istanbul? Als je naar de winnaars en verliezers gaat kijken in 2011 ....
    9 mei 2011 – De Grand Prix van Turkije leverde vooraan niet het spektakel dat we zagen in China, maar als die race de norm gaat worden, zullen we wel vaker teleurgesteld worden. Een klinkende zege van Seb Vettel en genoeg gesteggel daarachter, er zijn weer genoeg winnaars en verliezers.

      Omdat er geen kip kwam kijken. In 2011 slechts 25.000 toeschouwers. Nogal karig op een circuit dat ruimte heeft voor 130.000 toeschouwers.
