Geen DAS-systeem voor Red Bull Racing

Mercedes introduceerde afgelopen winter tijdens de wintertest in Barcelona het nieuwe innovatieve DAS-systeem. Hiermee kan de stand van de voorwielen worden aangepast tijdens het rijden en de FIA heeft goedkeuring gegeven voor het systeem, zelfs na een protest van Red Bull.

Vanaf 2021 is het systeem al wel op de lijst geplaatst van onderdelen die verboden zijn. Red Bull Racing had aangekondigd om te kijken of het ook een DAS-systeem wilde bouwen, maar Helmut Marko heeft nu verklaard dat dit niet gaat gebeuren.

In gesprek met motorsport-magazin.com zegt de Oostenrijker: "DAS is voor ons klaar. Aan de ene kant is het natuurlijk een kwestie van gewicht. Maar tegen de tijd dat je het ontwikkeld hebt om perfect te werken, is het misschien de laatste race en dan is het volgend jaar verboden."

    Ze wisten in februari al van het DAS systeem af. Ze hadden het dus al kunnen ontwikkelen.

    DAS is niet de heilige graal voor de winst. Ze gebruiken het systeem achter de safety car, en daarmee zijn ze in staat beter de warmte in de voorbanden te wrijven. Verder niet. Wellicht dat op een koud circuit DAS nog wat meer gebruikt zou worden.
    Terecht dat Red Bull niet een DAS systeem gaat ontwikkelen voor laatste races van dit seizoen. Beter alle resources op verbeteren wat ze nu hebben.

      Helemaal juist. De meeste circuits waar het zijn dienst wel kan bewijzen tijdens de race zoals Monaco en Baku staan zelfs niet op de agenda. Jammer dat we deze innovatie al vanaf volgend jaar niet meer zullen zien.
