Renault is bereid om zich aan te passen aan lastige Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso voegt zich vanaf 2021 weer bij het Renault-team. De Spanjaard zal Daniel Ricciardo gaan vervangen, die op zijn beurt vertrekt naar McLaren. Het zal moeten blijken of de komst van Alonso naar Renault goed nieuws is voor Esteban Ocon. De jonge Franse coureur heeft dit jaar namelijk al moeite om naast Ricciardo goede prestaties neer te zetten.

Renault-teambaas Abiteboul zegt hierover: "Daniel is een erg sterke coureur. Hij is dit jaar nog sterker geworden omdat de auto en de samenwerking met de engineers beter is. Esteban komt langzaam terug na een jaar niet te hebben geracet en hij is niet zo ver van Daniel als het lijkt. Hij maakte een fout in Mugello, maar het laat me zien dat hij aanvalt en meer wil, wat ik verkies boven een coureur die gewoon de status quo en de teamhiërarchie accepteert."

Aanpassen op Alonso

De inkomende Alonso is echter een notoir moeilijk personage, maar Abiteboul zegt dat hij klaar is voor de Spanjaard. Abiteboul: "We zijn erop voorbereid en we zullen ons erop aanpassen. Ik neem aan dat onze auto er volgend jaar nog beter uit zal zien, en wanneer Fernando de vooruitgang ziet, zal het de racer in hem wakker maken."

"Waar we zeker moeten verbeteren, is de uitvoering. We weten van Fernando dat hij geen fouten maakt, dus we zullen geen excuses hebben."

  Ik ben geen fan van Alonso als mens en van mij had hij niet terug hoeven keren in de F1, maar eerlijk is eerlijk, het geeft nu al spektakel!
  
  Mijn verwachting? Een gefrustreerde Alonso trekt over 2 jaar met flink sacherijn de deur van de Formule 1 definitief dicht net als Abitiboutel. En Ocon zal het eerste slachtoffer zijn. Nadat Alonso gehakt van hem draait komt de gefrustreerde Fransman in hem boven en gaat hij (nog) gekke(re) dingen doen waardoor het exit is voor hem na komend seizoen.

  @Rogier,
  precies, je hoeft ook geen fan van Alonso te zijn om zijn comeback toe te juichen. Het is iemand die altijd voor vuurwerk zorgt. Zolang hij dat maar niet kwijt is. Voor wat betreft Ocon, bij FI vond ik het wel een leuke rijder, had ook dit jaar wel wat vuurwerk van hem verwacht. Hij stelt me toch wat teleur. Ik vrees dat Fernando hem gaat vermorzelen, en dat is jammer. Zo team-interne venijnige strijd als met Perez, dat is ook mooi

Ocon zijn carriere is over na 1 seizoen naast Alonso.
Alonso is toch altijd nog actief geweest in de autosport en is altijd blijven trainen dit in combinatie met zijn talent zal hij echt beter voor de dag komen als Schumacher na zijn 4-jarige sabbatical.
Volgend seizoen zullen we echt zien dat Ocon niet meer is dan een middelmatig coureur.

Ja, moet je doen aanpassen aan Alonso. Heeft McLaren ook ervaring mee. Van Alonso gaat geen een team ook maar een honderdste sneller.
