Christian Horner: "Geen zorgen dat Ferrari-teamleiding nu de F1 bestuurt"

Christian Horner zegt dat hij zich geen zorgen maakt dat zoveel voormalige Ferrari-teambazen nu de Formule 1 besturen. Het team uit Maranello is de enige in de pitlane met de bevoegdheid om over nieuwe regels haar veto uit te spreken. Wat opvalt is dat Jean Todt zijn als FIA-president, Ross Brawn als sportief directeur, en vanaf 2021 Stefano Domenicali als CEO de topfuncties hebben binnen de F1 (FOM) en FIA-organisatie hebben.

Alle drie de mannen stonden centraal in het uiterst succesvolle Michael Schumacher-tijdperk van Ferrari, maar Red Bull-teambaas Horner houdt vol dat hij zich geen zorgen maakt. De Brit zei hierover: "Je kijkt natuurlijk naar de samenstelling aan de bovenkant van de sport en het ziet eruit als een Formule 1-opstelling uit het midden van de jaren '90 of begin 2000."

"Maar ik denk niet dat er een bepaalde voorkeur of liefde is voor Ferrari van één van die individuen. Ik weet zeker dat Stefano nauwgezet zal zijn in zijn onpartijdigheid."

Domenicali een goede vent

Het nieuws dat voormalig Ferrari-baas Domenicali vanaf 1 januari volgend jaar Chase Carey zal vervangen, werd afgelopen weekend in Sochi alom toegejuicht. Horner vindt het een goede keus: "Ik vind het geweldig voor de sport. Hij is een goede vent. Omdat ik tegen hem heb gestreden toen hij de teambaas van Ferrari was, kan ik zeggen dat hij heel integer is. Hij was een racer, een concurrent, hij begrijpt het vak."

"Het is duidelijk dat hij de afgelopen jaren in een commerciële wereld buiten de Formule 1 heeft doorgebracht, hij heeft geweldig werk geleverd bij Lamborghini en ik denk dat hij een echte aanwinst zal zijn voor de Formule 1."

Domenicali kwam op mij altijd als een keurig en bekaam teamleider over. Ik geloof wel dat die integer is en anders weet ie het goed te verbergen en komen we er dus toch niet achter.... ook goed! :)

Nou mooi toch. Mensen met ervaring in de sport zelf die beslissingen moeten nemen. Ik zie dit ook alleen maar positief. Bovendien is hij al sinds 2010 (volgens mij) weg bij Ferrari.
