Nieuwe updates eindelijk beschikbaar voor Sergio Perez

Hij heeft twee races moeten wachten, maar Sergio Perez krijgt eindelijk de kans om de nieuwe updates van Racing Point uit te proberen tijdens de Eifel Grand Prix. Het grondig herziene aerodynamische pakket is tot dusverre alleen door Lance Stroll gereden na de introductie tijdens de Toscaanse Grand Prix van vorige maand.

Naar schatting zou het per ronde ongeveer drie tienden sneller zijn dan de oude wagen, maar Racing Point kon slechts voor één auto genoeg onderdelen produceren, wat betekent dat Stroll het pakket als eerste kreeg omdat hij de best geplaatste coureur van het team was in het kampioenschap.

Racing Point had gehoopt genoeg onderdelen mee te nemen om twee volledig bijgewerkte RP20's te laten rijden tijdens de Russische Grand Prix, maar een zware crash voor Stroll in Mugello en een daaropvolgend gebrek aan reserveonderdelen betekende dat die plannen moesten worden uitgesteld. Het team uit Silverstone kon profiteren van een zeldzaam gat van twee weken tussen races in de drukke 2020-kalender van de F1 om de upgrade voor beide coureurs op tijd klaar te maken voor de race van dit weekend in Duitsland.

Juiste balans vinden

Perez verkeert in goede vorm sinds hij terugkeerde van het missen van twee races op Silverstone na het oplopen van het coronavirus. De Mexicaan probeert momenteel een stoeltje te vinden voor volgend seizoen nadat hij zijn plaats bij Racing Point verloor aan viervoudig wereldkampioen Sebastian Vettel.

Voorafgaand aan de Grand Prix van de Eifel zei Perez: "Het is geweldig om de uitdaging aan te gaan om je aan te passen aan nieuwe circuits, het wordt hier zeker leuk. Je moet de juiste balans vinden op het gebied van stabiliteit in de bochten. Dit circuit kent verschillende type bochten met verschillende snelheden. Inhalen is mogelijk, maar zeker niet gemakkelijk."

"Ik ben ook blij dat we een volledig seizoen racen, dus dank aan de Formule 1 en de FIA dat ze dit mogelijk hebben gemaakt. Het is prettig dat we dit jaar een volle kalender kunnen hebben."

  @mette omdat Vettel daar volgend jaar gaat rijden natuurlijk. Maar niemand weet of het dan op dezelfde manier gaat...

  BMW E30@ Als ik teambaas was zou ik dit als argumenten gebruiken:
  - Perez staat onder Stroll in het WK. (vooral na Monza dus in Mugello)
  - Perez liegt over zijn verblijf tussen Hongarije en Silverstone
  - Vettel aangekondigd in Mugello, Perez vertrekt dus... Updates zou ik geven aan een constante factor die volgend jaar ook rijdt voor een zo goed mogelijke feedback. Dat is weer Stroll.

  Je wil toch zoveel mogelijk punten scoren als team en kans maken op het podium? Dan kun je beter de updates aan Perez geven want die is gewoon sneller. En wat heet... Perez was vorige race ook duidelijk sneller dan Stroll, ondanks een oudere specificatie.
  
  Het zou volgend jaar ook wel heel dom zijn om Stroll 1e rijder te maken, ze moeten juist alles op Vettel zetten.
