Helmut Marko: "Dit jaar nog één grote update voor Red Bull"

Alexander Albon en Max Verstappen hebben met de RB16 een wagen die op het podium kan komen. Mede door de inzinking van Ferrari kent het team geen echte tegenstand rondom zich heen, behalve als vooral Max Verstappen in de buurt kan komen van Mercedes-coureurs Lewis Hamilton en Valtteri Bottas.

Red Bull Racing begon tijdens de wintertests goed aan het seizoen, zo leek het. Het duurde echter tot begin juli dat de eerste Grand Prix werd verreden vanwege de coronacrisis. De Oostenrijkse Grand Prix was de eerste race van het seizoen en daar leek Max Verstappen op weg naar een mogelijke Grand Prix-zege. Kort daarna werd het toch al snel duidelijk dat Mercedes flink zou domineren en het Oostenrijkse team op achterstand stond.

Updates Red Bull RB16

Tijdens het seizoen is Red Bull Racing altijd goed in het updaten en ontwikkelen van de wagen maar dat kwam dit jaar moeizaam op gang. Ook dit kwam door het vreemde seizoen, waarbij er meerdere triple headers achter elkaar kwamen en het hierdoor lastig was om snel te analyseren en door te ontwikkelen. De RB16 bleek ook een problematische wagen, maar Verstappen kon daar enigszins omheen werken, zo zei teambaas Horner.

Inmiddels is de ontwikkeling op gang gekomen en hebben diverse updates de RB16 van Verstappen en Albon meer snelheid gegeven.

Helmut Marko heeft tegen Auto Motor und Sport gezegd dat er nog één grote update zal plaatsvinden dit jaar en dat het daarna voorbij is met het ontwikkelen van de wagen. De 77-jarige Oostenrijker vertelde: "We willen eerst de updates van afgelopen weekend op de Nurburgring evalueren. Dat hebben we nog niet kunnen doen omdat we geen trainingen hadden op vrijdag, dus we midden drie uur aan data. Daarna zal er nog één grote update op de RB16 komen in 2020."

Goedzo, updaten die handel!
Aangezien het kampioenschap toch al lam geslagen is zouden een paar dag successen zeer welkom zijn. En zorg ook maar dat die auto goed is om er vanaf begin volgend jaar gelijk bovenop te zitten

  laten we hopen dat het structurele updates zijn deze laatste races zijn eigenlijk de test mogelijkheden voor volgend jaar en Mercedes geeft aan allang te zijn gestopt met de 2020 auto zij zijn al helemaal over gestapt naar de 2021 auto.

  Ach dit is toch ieder jaar zo... Mercedes speelt gewoon met de rest. Waren in 2018 even verrast door een sterk ferrari, om in 2019 een kanon van een auto neer te zetten en voor de zomerstop de titel vrijwel veilig te hebben... dat na de zomerstop Ferrari met een motor komt, heeft ze nog scherper gezet voor de 2020 auto. Red Bull komt een race of 6 te laat bij... denken er te staan, maar vergeet dat Mercedes alle focus op volgend jaar al zet. Eerste wedstrijd: 1 seconde per ronde weer -.-
  
  Mercedes doet precies wat BrawnGP onbewust deed. In de eerste helft de titel binnen slepen. Wat Mercedes extra doet ten opzichte van Brawn, ze komen op de helft van t seizoen met een update. Vanaf dat moment gaat de focus weer op next season

Het lijkt er in ieder geval op dat ze de problemen hebben weten op te lossen. De wagen lijkt inmiddels beter te besturen...
