Haas bedankt Grosjean en Magnussen

Sinds de oprichting van Haas F1 zit Romain Grosjean al bij het team. Een jaar later voegde Kevin Magnussen zich toe bij de Amerikaanse renstal. Sindsdien zijn de twee al vier jaar samen actief in de Formule 1, maar daar is nu een einde aan gekomen.

Deze week kon GPToday.net melden dat de twee coureurs niet meer doorgaan in 2021 bij Haas. De coureurs hebben dat via hun officiële kanalen ook bekend gemaakt. Haas zal dus op zoek moeten naar twee nieuwe coureurs. Een coureur is al wel duidelijk. Nikita Mazepin kan zo bij het team aan de slag, maar wie de tweede coureur gaat zijn, is nog niet duidelijk.

De teambaas van Haas Günther Steiner kwam met de volgende verklaring. "Ik wil zowel Romain Grosjean als Kevin Magnussen bedanken voor hun harde werk en toewijding aan het Haas F1 Team in de afgelopen seizoenen", aldus Steiner.

Sinds de samenwerking in 2017 hebben Grosjean en Magnussen verschillende opmerkelijke prestaties geleverd, waaronder de eerste dubbele puntenscore van het team (Grand Prix van Monaco 2017), de hoogste team-finish (vierde en vijfde plaats in 2018 tijdens de Oostenrijkse Grand Prix) en in 2018 hielpen ze het team aan de vijfde plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap, tot nu toe het best behaalde resultaat.

"Romain was een fundamenteel onderdeel van ons team omdat we een coureur met zowel snelheid als ervaring aan boord wilden krijgen. Zijn resultaten begin 2016 waren een terechte beloning, niet alleen voor zijn eigen talent, maar ook voor de enorme inspanning die het team had geleverd om dat seizoen op de grid te staan. Toen Kevin een seizoen later toetrad, zagen we een onmiddellijke terugkeer, waarbij beide auto's punten scoorden, en natuurlijk onze eerste dubbele puntenfinish in Monaco dat jaar. We hebben veel goede herinneringen samen, in het bijzonder seizoen 2018, toen we pas in ons derde seizoen vijfde werden in het klassement. Romain en Kevin speelden een belangrijke rol in dat succes."

In 2020 nog genoeg te racen

Steiner hoopt dat beide coureurs nog genieten van de races die er nog te racen zijn. "Natuurlijk is er in het seizoen 2020 nog genoeg te racen. Het is ongetwijfeld een uitdagend jaar geweest, maar beide coureurs hebben alles gegeven achter het stuur van de VF-20. We waarderen hun input en ervaring om het team vooruit te helpen naar de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi in december."

Ik vond Grosjean bij het interview toch wel hier en daar een persoonlijke sneer uit delen. "De beslissing was lang geleden gemaakt, maar er werd besloten om het ons 2 week geleden te vertellen" en zo waren er nog een paar dingen dat ik dacht... man man man... je hebt 5 racejaren extra te danken aan hen

Ik vind dat walgelijk. Magnussen was vandaag the gentleman

  Ergens snap ik het wel. De geruchten gingen al veel langer en als coureur heb je liever zo snel mogelijk duidelijkheid. Ook omdat op een gegeven moment andere stoeltjes (ook in andere raceklassen) anders al opgevuld zijn en je dan zonder contract nergens meer heen kan.

  De timing nu het seizoen zo laat begonnen is, is voor veel rijders l*llig... maar om roepen dat "beide rijders vervangen worden om financiële redenen" is niet slim, nog aan hem om dit te roepen.
  
  Ik begrijp best dat de timing je chagrijnig maakt, maar kijkend naar zijn teamgenoot... Grosjean had zich meer professioneel moeten gedragen.

Jammer voor magnussen, maar ik vindt dat
grosjean er 2 jaar geleden al uit had gemoeten. Ze hebben beide goede en slechte dagen gekend maar het hardste gevecht is al deze tijd binnen het team gevoerd heb ik het idee. Dit duo heeft gewoon niet gewerkt en dit is dus de rekening.
