Nico Hulkenberg mee naar Portugal om eventueel Lance Stroll te vervangen

Nico Hulkenberg was de vervanger voor Lance Stroll tijdens de Eifel Grand Prix. Toen was hij toevallig in de buurt, maar het circus is nu in Portugal en kan niet zomaar worden gebeld. Hij is daarom meegevlogen naar Portugal om Lance Stroll eventueel te vervangen.

Lance Stroll testte positief op het coronavirus na de race in Duitsland en moet officieel tot en met donderdag binnenblijven, al is hij toch naar Portugal gekomen. Eerder deze week testte Stroll negatief. Naar verwachting zal de Racing Point-coureur ook negatief testen in aanloop naar de Portugese Grand Prix in Portimao. De uitslagen van de testen zullen vandaag bekend worden gemaakt.

Nico Hulkenberg heeft zich dit raceweekend bij Racing Point toegevoegd. Eerder verving hij ook al Sergio Perez op Silverstone. Teambaas van de Racing Point-formatie Szafnauer zei donderdag tegen de media het volgende: “Ja, Nico is hier aanwezig. Ik denk dat andere teams er ook voor hebben gekozen om voor het eerst reservecoureurs mee te nemen. Ik denk dat het logisch is om reservecoureurs te hebben in deze tijd."

Lance Stroll had afgelopen weekend een negatieve testuitslag, hij zit de hele tijd binnen en de kans op een positieve uitslag is dan ook niet groot, zo bevestigt de teambaas. "Hij had dit weekend een negatieve test. De kans om nu een positieve test te krijgen is laag. Misschien wel nul. Ik weet er niet zoveel van, maar de kans is laag, weet je. Nico is hier uit voorzorg en ik ben er zeker van dat Lance dit weekend in de auto zal zitten."

Toch zou ik het leuk vinden als Nico weer gaat rijden. Niet omdat ik het Lance niet gun, maar puur om Nico. Leuke gast en zijn invalbeurten zijn sterk!
