Esteban Ocon over samenwerking met Alonso: "Het is fijn om drie meningen te hebben"

De line-up van Renault in 2021 is al bekend. Daniel Ricciardo verlaat het team en gaat naar McLaren. Zijn plekje zal worden opgevuld door een oude bekende voor het Franse team. Fernando Alonso keert namelijk terug naar het team waarmee hij twee wereldtitels wist te behalen. Alonso is met het team al bezig voor de 2021- en 2022-auto, dat is volgens Esteban Ocon al te merken.

Fernando Alonso is nu dus al aan het werk bij het team. De Spanjaard doet naast het meehelpen met het ontwikkelen, ook het simulatorwerk voor het team. Hierdoor kan Renault sneller data verzamelen en hebben de coureurs op het circuit er voordeel van.

Esteban Ocon legt uit waarom het zo fijn is om met een derde coureur te kunnen samenwerken. "We kunnen werken op basis van drie meningen", zo begint de Franse coureur. "Die van mij, Daniel Ricciardo's en Fernando's. We oefenen allemaal op de sim voordat we racen om de auto tijdens het weekend goed af te stellen. Drie meningen zijn beter dan twee. Het is goed dat Alonso al nauw samenwerkt met het simteam.”

Alonso testte deze maand al voor Renault, maar heeft zich nog niet laten zien tijdens een Grand Prix. De Spanjaard heeft van het team verschillende middelen gekregen waarmee hij alles kan bekijken vanuit huis. “Ik bekijk alle races vanuit huis en heb ook een goede setup. Het team gaf me een computer waarmee ik de aan boord van Esteban en Daniel kon bekijken, evenals teamradio, debriefing en strategiebijeenkomsten. Ik ben op de hoogte van alles wat er in de weekenden gebeurt."

Renault doet het goed en hoopt mee te kunnen strijden met de top in 2021.

En dat terwijl de marktwaarde van Ocon enkel maar ver kan dalen. Tegen Ricciardo kan hij totaal geen vuist maken, en als hij dat straks tegen een relatief oude Alonso ook niet kan, hoe interessant is Ocon dan nog?

  Met die computers bestuurt hij beide auto’s . Ocon moet nog leren overal met z’n tengels vanaf te blijven als Fred z’n wagen op afstand bestuurt.
  Ricciardo is slimmer wat dat betreft en stond prompt op het podium.

  @Damon Hill: welke marktwaarde van Ocon? Hij mag in de Renault rijden omdat hij Frans is, maar zodra ze Gasly kunnen krijgen zullen ze hem vervangen en ik geloof niet dat er ergens anders plek voor Ocon is. Ocon wordt door elke teammaat verslagen en komt alleen in beeld als hij weer eens iets stoms heeft gedaan of zich gedraagt als een idioot. Wat mij betreft is het exit uit de F1 voor deze man
